OK, yes I missed the recall on my 2006 Tacoma Frame - actually I never received the notices (apparently they sent them to my Wife, who has a Corolla and filed them with her car files- Do I have a case to argue?)
Anyway, the dealer tells me the frame is shot - I don't have the $20,000+or the inclination to fix my $10,000 valued 2006 truck.
I did get a quote from an engineering company that, after the $3,000 to remove the body, said they could repair the frame for around $2,000.
Any thoughts - do I spend $5,000 to recover the $10,000 value - I there any alternative option?

    Right church, wrong pew.

I think your frame replacement window closed about 3 yrs ago.

My guess is you never clean/inspect/protect your undercarriage, because the damage didnt occur over 1 winter.....

You're out of luck with Toyota. Your economical solution involves a lot of DIY labor, space, tools and time.

You might find a buyer with a good frame and beat body/driveline who'd be interested in yours, assuming those things are in better shape than the frame.

Sorry 'bout your dilemma. I'm for cutting your losses and be thankful for the 15 years she served you. Find some young buck to sell it to for ten or twelve of franklins. Once the thing has that much cancer, there's no happy ending.

Tacoma World should have been your first mod!
You would have been a happy camper with a new frame!
Guessing you don’t work on your own truck? If the truck is solid the 5k would be worth it. But pending laws in your state repairs to small areas can be cheap.
Pictures of the frame body engine compartment would greatly help in giving advise!
    Sorry your where you are!
    Welcome to Tacoma World.

They guys have pretty much covered all of your options. It's ultimately up to you what you decide to do..

I just want to add... I have had a couple of Ford Rangers, and a Chevy S-10. None of them lasted 15 years, due to rust. Be thankful for the 15 years you had, and when you get a new or new-to-you truck, take care of that frame!

I have total empathy for your plight. I missed the original factory recall for my 2007, which expired in 2016 - I misread "Mar" as "May", and too bad for me. It was then that I found TW, and heard about the possibility of a class-action lawsuit settlement coming soon, and it came, and I got a new frame. I think that was the only time in my life I've been lucky...

I just talked to the https://www.autorust.com/product-category/toyota/tacoma-2005-2014-2nd-gen/ and they have the weld-on repair frame parts for my 2006 Tacoma - still not on their webpage as they have yet to produce the directions; but they sent me a list of their fixes for various parts of the frame. Far cheaper than the option: "remove the body and send the frame to an engineering company" and their parts can be fitted with the body still attached. They are sending me a quote along with the freight costs to Western Canada, but every one of the parts (for both sides) are only about $1,000 US, so even with a $500 freight bill, I could have a $2,000 fix.
I'm waiting to hear back from my body shop as to what they think, and will repost if/when I go with this option, which should be far cheaper than the $5,000 option of removing the body.
The rest of the truck is in great condition (other than a rear bumper that apparently I can replace for under $200), and with only 189,000 km I think I'll be happy to get another 5+ years out of the baby.

I'd love to see some photos of your frame, and keep us up to date. Mine didn't qualify for a replacement but might want a repair sometime down the road.

Hey there I'm in the process of prepping my caps for install right now. I've got a couple pictures of how they fit and it's spot on for what I need. this is on the front driver side section of the frame behind the control arms. I can post some more pictures later today if anybody is interested. I know a lot of people here would say to either scrap it or get a whole new frame but I'm pretty confident these caps will get me another 5 years at least. They are big and beefy and fit the frame pretty perfectly, lots of area to be welded

Yes theyre from autorust. For my truck, I think it will work pretty damn well because of where my frame is only damaged in one concentrated spot. We will find out soon enough! Btw I'm only installing the passenger side if anyone is searching for the driver side let me know, I bought both on impulse!

Thanks dernuld, Sounds great - I won't know what I'll need until my body-man checks it out (probably after the Easter Break) - Really appreciate your feedback on my troubles, and the comfort that there might be a resolve for my procrastination!
    Cheers and good luck

Sorry to hi-jack but I just brought mine in to get checked out and dealer told me my frame coverage window closed too....28 days ago. Is it a waste of time to call Toyota directly and see what they can do. My frame isn't toast but it's on its way.

Is it a waste of time if it works out or if it leads you to a decision that needs to be made? I'd just call, but if you're actually past you're likely SOL. But I still think it's worth it to try. Now.
