I posted this to another thread, but that thread was pretty old and dead, so here's another shot to try and figure out some things about my Maestro RR install. I am using the Maestro with a Kenwood Excelon 9707XR, and I think I am missing some installation harnesses, but I have a huge bag of unused adapters.

The problem is I don't have any idea what the adapter I am missing from the installation instructions below could be connected to the HU or Maestro, as all the other sockets and solders look good? The harness is question is circled in red below.

These are the empty connectors that look like they would be used for the harness circled above. Any idea which one of these connectors I should be attaching to, where the missing adapter is, what it looks like, and wtf does it do?!

Thanks for any help, it is much appreciated!

Adding some fuel to the fire here, just in case I get an expert in the thread. Does EVERY 2020 Tacoma model have GPS. Because this looks like a factory GPS plug, and I only have an SR Utility. I don't want to buy a GPS adapter if this lead terminates to nothing (vestigial GPS adapter).

Lasty... Anyone know for what this unused harness all the way in the back of the head unit cavity is used? It's taped down to a very thick wiring bundle, and just looks oddly unused. I assume it's for a some climate displays or something my SR doesn't include as part of the trim package. It'd be interesting if some TRD or PRO components were wired, and just needed the "components" to function. Just curious here.

I did some testing and digging, and I've determined the "missing" adapter is a vestigial rear-speaker harness. Still curious about the GPS and the rear harness, though ;)

The harness taped up in the back is a ground junction. Nothing but ground wires in that.

The black connector with 8 wires is your speaker harness. All speaker wires are in that plug. It should definitely have an adapter in the maestro wiring if you got the correct one. It may be a standalone adapter with just white/grey/green/purple wires

    *edit down below*
Your truck may very well have a gps antenna. Try to follow that wire back into the dash. There will be a metal mount with a little square puck antenna towards the upper drivers side of I recall. Pretty easily visible with a flashlight.

    *edit*
I feel dumb. That’s the XM antenna and not the GPS antenna. That one routes to the shark fin up on the roof

    Hey Destin!

Thanks for the info, I think I've got it all ironed out. Saved $350 doing it myself, so that's a win for the day. I've been too lazy this winter, I've got to start doing all my own wiring/installations again. I'm getting rusty and dumb :)

I'm considering trying to do a head unit upgrade myself, I've never done one before.

Is the Maestro RR required in the Gen3s for steering wheel controls to function or is it only for the vehicle data to be shown on the head unit?

Going to attempt to upgrade my 2018 SR Tacoma.

It’s for both, program the maestro with a pc and you can customize what each button does or leave it just like it is from the factory.
