I was wondering what the optimal settings regarding 4lo, mts, and rear diff in deep wet snow is? I have been joining a couple of my Jeep buddies on the weekends. We are on the west coast and basically surrounded by 100s of kms of old deactivated logging roads.
We basically go up until we hit snow continue til I'm stuck, they give me a tug or a combination of maxtrax/shovel get me out and that's as far as I go. But given I'm a complete newbie I'm unsure of what the best settings are, right now I'm usually in 4 lol and just trying to keep from spinning so I don't sink and bog down. I know mts basically limits the amount of slip each wheel gets and I have played with that a bit but I'm not sure how much slip I want. I also get quite a bit of what I assume is axel wrap that scares me into backing out of it alot, should I be aired down even more?

I'm in a basically stock OR with wildpeaks that I air down to around 18psi. I'm brand new to any sort of 4wd, having lot of fun despite being a complete noob.

Try airing down to 10psi and just don't drive like a 16 year old with a rental.

Quikfix seat risers and lic plate mount, MESO interior and stage 1 tails, glove box and console dividers, shelf for center console, FACTOR 55 hitch link, TC bed stiffeners, OE bed mat,
Single digit (try 10psi next time) air pressure, I ran 1 to 2 psi in my last trail rig in the snow w/o bead locks, 0 beads blown
Low range + locker, slow and steady, the faster the tire turns the faster it digs, my last trail rig in low range @ 4000rpm in 5th gear = 18mph
Stop BEFORE the tires start to dig
Remove sway bar so a front tires can follow the ground and provide traction

I've been "wheeling" in Sierra Cement snow for 30+ years. A solid axle light rig on the biggest tires (w/o air) that will fit works the best. My FJ and the Taco was/are too heavy and don't easily accommodate big enuf tires to work well in deep snow.

    YMMV RON

Jeeps will almost always out wheel you in deep snow. They're able to stuff wider tires and much shorter wheel base. I've found that my Tacoma does great in the snow, but my jeep did phenomenal.

Keep a lid on it, or all the lower mainlanders will be up there trashing the place.
