little bit of here and a little bit of that...
So I’m not on here to bash Toyota. I bought a Toyota cause I think it’s one of the best trucks on the market these days. But...

I have heard Toyota doing defective paint jobs but not very many, and I’m wondering if anyone has experienced the same Or even something similar what I’m experiencing. I have owned my vehicle since October 2019, I was washing/detailing my truck and noticed the edge of my door jam has chipped paint, as you can see in the photos below it’s not too bad, but that particular part of my door jam looks like the paint will continue to chip over time. And will be a bigger issue later on.

I want to know if anyone else in Tacoma world has experienced this issue. And if you have, what did you do to fix this? Bring it back to dealer ship? And if you have brought it back to the dealership, what did it take, or what did they say, to fix the issue. Good Easter y’all! 5615F979-51A1-4B9B-B5C6-C9D9061C1C21.jpg AC7C9B3D-2F52-4258-90D1-9AF995F7BE59.jpg 719C5DB7-5E04-4D6E-8C10-E41027C410A7.jpg

Oh man... I zoomed in on that and it's really bad. Looks like more than chips to me. Are you sure the door edge is not rubbing when you open the door? I'd certainly question the dealer.

Yea, I’m positive it’s not rubbing. That would be another issue...

My 18 had no chips on that door edge, and neither does my 20... I don't see how stones would make it there being protected by the fender flare. I'm interested to see if others have seen this.

Maybe dealer repainted that door to hide some damage? Is there paint under the chips, or primer?

That’s actually fubar. Any self-respecting bodyman would be ashamed of work like that.

I think they owe you an explanation and fix on that.

Thing is.. I bought it brand new. First owner with 12 miles on it. It looks greenish to me under the chipped paint, but like a primed green.

Was probably damaged in transit or at the Dealership, did you look it over good during the purchase process?

It could have started flaking off. I would guess your dealer will take care of you on this. They’d have to want to lose a customer to try to deny warranty.

Def some form of body repair was done, the inner door edge appears to be poorly prepped/sand scratches. Take the taco to an independent collision center for a another opinion before you take it to the dealership. I would also check the right front fender and right rear door too. That color tends to be difficult to butt match, check the inner edges/jambs on all 3 panels

Take it in. Should be covered under warranty. I have the same issue with my white taco. Just google it and you will see similar complaints.

Thats a issue with the super white trucks thats documented, this looks to be a port body repair that was poorly done before sale.

I’m not a painter but in the past 60+ years of having body and paint work done to my vehicles, I know more about body and paint repair than I really want to know. An extremely shoddy repair/repaint was done on your truck before delivery...maybe even at the factory. A body repair specialist is going have to sand the original repair and neighboring area of the door to bare metal, primer and bring the repair up to the level of the good paint, either repaint the whole door or more than likely blend the new base coat paint into the factory paint, blend the new base coat into the factory paint on the fender and then clear coat the whole door and whole fender. You definitely want the go to the best collision center in your area. Matching the paint on your truck requires a skilled painter doing his best work. Sorry you new truck needs to have work done on it. Good luck.

Your entire paint job should covered under warranty, however, this does not look like a factory defect so the sooner you bring it in, the less chance that you'll be blamed. I think.
