This is Jackie. She's a 2021 TRD Sport 4x4 Access Cab 6MT in Voodoo Blue. I bought her in February as a 40th birthday present to myself. This thread will track her progress as I make her mine. I've been waiting for quite a few years to have a vehicle I knew I'd be keeping long enough to make customizing worth it. That said, I don't plan on going too crazy with her.

What she looks like today (28 Mar 2021), the most recent mod being a grey Softopper.

This is what she looked like in the ad when I found her.

Today I installed a Softopper as well as the Delete in Reverse mod to kill the license plate lights when in reverse.

I also added a 3rd brake light with turn signals thanks to a harness from @Puppypunter and some.

Inside the bed there is a quick disconnect so I can fold down the top and not worry about the 3rd brake light. I'll redo this soon so it is one connector and I'll redo the solder points to be properly heat shrunk. But for now it works.

Turned out really nice! I think that deutsch connector would clean it up even further :)

I concur, though I can't seem to find that flush mount connector online. Might you have a link to them?

Edit: NVM, you had already sent it in me in the PM. Thanks!

No problem :) They make it in black too, just not as easy to find for some reason.

So @Puppypunter has a thread where he sells just a “tap” that you plug in and gives you bare wires. I asked him about supporting turn signals in mine, and he said no problem. So what I ended up with was two harnesses:

Driver side harness simply comes off the turn signal and has a single wire that runs under along the rear crossmember to the passenger side. Passenger side has a harness that comes off the tail and turn plugs. So I ended up with 5 bare wires. I sent him the diagram for my light and he even matched up the wire colors.

From there I wired the 5 bare wires to a set of metri-pack 150 waterproof connectors and the other end of that plug come off the light itself. That ugly electrical tape job you see is due to the light wires being super tiny (28 ga maybe?) so I soldered them to some 18 ga wire that works with the connectors much better.

All that said, I already have a version 2 I’m mapping out where I’ll install a flush mount plug in the bed with 10 or 12 pins so I can add interior lights. I also kinda wish I had a light that could do reverse as well, which will probably need me to have puppypunter modify my harness.

Hapoy to help more if I can. I admit I’m a total noob, and this was much easier than it probably sounded. The metri-pack connectors are super easy to work with and his harness made it super easy to tap into everything without cutting a single factory wire.

Metripack is still one of my favorite to work with. I would actually wager money that I could crimp one using just my feet

And just let me know when you want to add that reverse. It will just be an additional harness, nothing too big.
