Hi all. Looking for snorkel advice on a 2021 taco. I see they have discontinued the TRD snorkel but I can still buy one from TRD shop. Any recommendations on going another way would be greatly appreciated. C4DC65EB-CE9D-4F5B-86F6-767295965D3F.jpg

The snorkel is cool. I would want one, but never use it.

I think you can still buy them from Toyota. You may have to submit a TRD Pro vin number for them to release it to you though because many TRD Pro parts are like that. I’m not sure how it’s installed either

Yes I can still get one from TRDproshop I was just wondering if anyone has any opinions on them or if I should go with a non OEM one. Safari is what’s on a couple of the trucks. We get a lot of rain down here in the summer so up at the ranch you can run into some deep water pretty fast and that’s on the roads.

Great to have if you run on very dusty roads or water crossings

The "snorkel" is a desert air intake so it helps keep the intake above a dust cloud if you're travelling / following someone on dusty roads, it's not really designed to prevent water intrusion if encountering deep water. You would need to seal up the air box better and protect the electronics if you're going too deep.

I believe you need to have a TRD Pro VIN that came from the factory with the snorkel installed.

They are also careful to call it a desert air intake because it affords you no water intrusion protection. Just to keep your expectations in line.

I've heard this part referred to as "VIN Locked" so I don't know if Toyota needs a record of the DAI being installed on it before or not. I would suspect since you've a 2021 when it was not offered you might have some issues but fingers crossed...

For me its the opposite. I need it and use it all the time, as my truck is 90% on desert roads on a farm - always super dusty.

in NON USDM Toyotas, Snorkel is pretty common.

However in US, snorkel seem to be a sign of douche bros - and I really as a result don't want to put it on my stock truck, due to the image, even though I really could use it

In the same boat with this truck. It’s a ranch runner so it’s about the functionality not the form. It will
Spend a lot of time on dusty limestone roads and sugar sand trails.

Didn't think they released a price yet... But at that price I would probably go with a Safari + snorkelupgrade pre cleaner

I think I’ll go safari. Have them on two of the other trucks. I was just seeing if there was an advantage of going with OEM
