Hey fellas, looking at upgrading my suspension to fit some 285-70-17 that I'm planning on buying sometime this month. I'm looking at getting the OME 2" kit from yotamafia, https://yotamafia.com/product/ome-old-man-emu-2-3-lift-kit-3rd-gen-tacoma/

What's everyone's experience with this kit? I am aware i might have to trim plastic and/or CMC..

I am looking at doing some moderate off-roading, mostly fire roads and trips down to BAJA to fish.

    Thanks yall

I've had this lift on mine for nearly a year and have loved it, offroad performace is great for the cost, and onroad isn't horrible, although I come from lifted jeeps and am used to the "float" feeling in the turns

I do a lot of gravel, mud/rock trails, and even did some crawling in moab on 32's, you won't be disappointed.

Dakar squeak is real though, if it will bother you look into ways to stop it before you install it

I've read that there are some small spacers you can put between the leafs, and that seems to have good results. Personally I don't really care, so hopefully some people with experience in stopping the squeak will chime in lol

I greased my bushings with marine grease, and got squeaks 4 months later, so that's not a long term solution

There's quite a few topics addressing it here on the forum and on Google though, so with some searching you should have an idea.

Couldn't answer that, personally I wanted a complete lift/suspension upgrade, and I've been very happy with it

I assume you'll be doing the work yourself?

Alright nothing new to you then lol, if you don't know about it consider doing the ecgs bearing upgrade while you have your front drivers side suspension apart. Replaces the stock toyota needle bearing with a more durable bearing.

Also really make sure sway bar mounts are all tightened up. I did my lift before moab and had a weird banging noise the whole trip lol, turned out the mounting bolts weren't tight enough and smacking around in the hole :D

Popping out the drivers side axel and pulling the bearing out, then setting the new one in.

My stock bearing came apart mid extraction, so I got to spend 2 hours carefully searching for all the pieces, and putting it together like a puzzle to make sure I had every little flake of metal.

    Those prices are ridiculous.

I just ordered/installed the same kit for $500 less through Wheelers. I went with 886/soft valve with trim packer (assembled), EL111R Dakar and carrier drop kit for $1240 shipped using the 10% off coupon that pops up when you access their site: Just the fact that the cost for assembly is double the price on the site you linked would be enough for me to look elsewhere. I received everything (west coast) a week after placing the order. Wheeler’s and Headstrong seem to be the 2 most popular sites for ordering OME.

As for the kit, super happy with it so far. Go with the 886 coils up front, the 888 and 887 shouldn’t even be an option.

Well shit, this is going to save me some cash lol. Great pics aswell

Im seeing the 886 coils are for trucks with a bumper and winch, I see you are pretty stock up front....Are you planning on adding weight up front or just gonna rock the heavier coils regardless?

Personally I've been very happy with 887s with my slimline bumper and winch, the weight balances really well for offroad, that being said my truck is lighter up front than the v6.

Really it ultimately comes down to do you want better onroad or offroad handling lol

Yeah, so I researched the crap out of this before making the purchase. The listings you see for 887/888 and weight handling are based on the 2nd gens. The 3rd gen weighs more. I saw too many complaints of the 888’s sagging, and the 887’s just not providing the amount of lift expected. I then saw nobody with 886’s that wish they ordered anything else, weight up front or not.

Based on that I went with 886’s, no regrets. Only weight I have are sliders, and in the back I now have a cap on.

I don’t have any plans for adding any additional weight up front.

Most of my driving is on-road. I’m sure there are people that are most sensitive to changes, but for me it’s not much different than stock. Drives great. Feels better / more planted on cornering. Every now and then I might hit a bump or pothole and think “that felt different” but never anything that I felt was a problem or a negative.

I also went with the soft valved, most of the resellers have a comment that the 886’s are not recommended with the soft valved struts, I did it anyway. I’d love to know the difference in real world application, but I don’t have any complaints. I felt like the firm valve was recommended since those coils are recommended for weighted applications, since I didn’t have the weight from add-on’s, I thought the soft valved would be fine and didn’t want the setup to be to firm or “jarring”.

Try using a new browser, when I go to the website it pop’s up with a splash screen offering a 10% discount code if you sign up for their newsletter. The code is good for 48 hours, I did it a couple times before I pulled the trigger. When I went last night to compare prices against the site you linked it popped up again so it still appears to be valid. It’s a unique 48 code they will email you. I either opted out of their newsletter immediately, or they’ve never sent me anything. If you dig through my post history you can see I started a thread in Jan when I was going I through the same motions you are. I had asked similar questions, got no response, so I ordered what I thought would be good and updated the thread with more info in case anyone else stumbled on it later. In that thread I included measurements (since slightly adjusted due to minor settling, so the lift isn’t as “extreme” as it was the week of install), I also put in my alignment figures.

I have no affiliation with Wheelers, I ordered through them for cost, availability at the time I ordered (in stock), and them shipping west coast and me being west coast figured it would be quick turn around on delivery. I think I ordered after hours on a Monday, it delivered the following Tuesday (pretty good considering I paid for the strut assembly).
