Same here. I love my truck, but with kids and dog 4R would have been so much better.
I just cant bring myself to commit to an auto.
So kids and dog continue to share the tight back seat...

Before I bought my Tacoma I looked hard at the 4runner. Asked a couple people close to me what they thought I should get and both said the 4runner.

    I got the taco.

It's just better. A tad bit better in fuel economy, lighter curb weight, higher towing capacity, the ability to throw wet dirty stinky shit in the bed, and it costs thousands less. I don't really see any good arguments for the 4runner other than back seat legroom.

For me, yes. Transmission is number one issue.
But we have other trucks and I’m usually only hauling small stuff that I could likely squeeze into the back of an SUV anyway.

I was skeptical about a used GX460 being comparable to a 4R price wise, but a little research showed that to be true. I can’t believe the prices that are being asked for 4-6 year old 4Runners. Same with the Taco. Hard to buy a lightly used Taco or 4R when you can get a new one with updated tech and warranty for not much more.

(I went to the dealer to look at a used Taco and walked out with a new one.)

The GX460 seems like a good deal for towing. Worse gas mileage though. From what I’ve read the body geometry makes it less suitable for real off-roading. And that grill...

If it’s a “real” Lexus as in Lexus parts I’d expect the maintenance and repairs to be much more.

My BIL has a 4R—SR5. He got it with some light hail damage at a big discount. He loves it, and really likes having the enclosed bed for his expensive mountain bikes.

No surprise to anyone here but the interior of the 4R is 1990’s Atari, and kind of hard for me to get past. I love the Taco’s simple but functional interior. The Taco is a much more cohesive design externally, though the 4R Limiteds look nice in certain color schemes (e.g., Stormtrooper look). I imagine the next upgrade will fix all the interior issues.

I like a manual and use the bed for hauling stuff, so the Taco fits my needs better. Of course to each his own.

I have not looked at a 4R yet, just did not want to leave anyone hanging, once I get in one I will report back.

That seems extremely cheap. When you say TRD do you mean TRD Offroad, which is also 4x4?
