I would never want that much weight on the top of my truck.

Dont vehicles have to be able to support a rollover which I’m sure is like 15000 lbs of pressure or something? They couldn’t work a roof rack that could hold more into that aspect?

The forces are different, but point taken. As was also pointed out, there's a difference between static and dynamic weight. I suppose you could also upgrade the roof rack itself given that technically it should be able to hold the full payload if the rack itself can handle it. (In theory anyway). The rack itself is probably the main difference between the two. But that could be just me talking out my ass as well.

Although rare, I believe I've seen RTT's mounted to Tacoma roof racks as well and those are typically around 130 lbs or more.

I understand both points in the discussion, the whole different strokes different folks absolutely applies here. He probably doesn’t want a full blown instalander set up, or to pull a small travel trailer, just some respectable numbers on the rack to pop an affordable Thule option on or something.

I would get the clutch smell too... it was really easy to burn the clutch on those in 1st gear accelerating quickly or trying to start out on a hill, but it never seemed to cause any lasting problems... just the lingering smell for 5-10mins before it dissipated.

Thanks for the Subaru conversation, we keep talking about getting rid of the 4Runner (maybe taco instead) for a more fuel efficient ride. Wife likes the looks of the cross what ever it is, we have had an outback for close to 10 years, our 17 year old son is driving it now.

Now this is very subjective but as a Subaru owner, and long time fan I just can't bring myself to like this generation of Outback.

    I'd have a Mitsubishi Outlander GT with the 3.0L V6 and 6AT.

Sure it is. I skateboard with both feet over one of the axles too. Very balanced.

I had the 24.L version for years and loved that thing. Plenty of pep, great gas mileage, and a lot of space inside. Plus the MSRP was very reasonable for a 3rd row SUV.
I've historically hated CVTs but around 2014 Mitsubishi figured it out, and theirs are actually decent now.

    hello there,
My mother wants to get a new car and is looking at subaru outbacks. She has spotted a 2018 model

What are the pros and cons and things I should look out for?

I know that these have CVT transmissions and I've heard mixed opinions about CVT. Then the 3rd gen tacomas transmission issues did not help either
Then the headunit gadget thingy/goodies that often bug or go bad

Sorry, but for a first genner like me, I consider that the less gadgets and technology it has, the better it is :p
