Well, someone in the great city of San Jose tried to get into the bed of my truck. Happy they were unsuccessful being that I had power tools in there. However it’s jammed up pretty good and I can barely unlock it without a lot of fidgeting. Now I start the good process of replacement. I can’t get a phone call back from Toyota Capital so I’m asking TW for advice. Should I buy the unit and replace it myself? Will it match the key in my fob? Should I ungrade to a Pop N Lock? Should I sleep in the back of my truck with a shotgun? JK. Thanks guys!

    Damn Cali tailgate thieven' shitbags!
A locksmith might be better. Definitely time to add the power lock, that way you don't forget,,, I'm guessing the only reason you're not looking for an entire tailgate, is because the lock slowed em down.

Damn did they try to drill that? If money is not an issue I would just order a replacement. I'm sure it's not hard to replace that thing. As far as getting it to work with your original key... You might need a locksmith or maybe even Toyota? Not sure about that one.

Well, one way to look at this is that tailgate lock did it's damn job! But it certainly paid the ultimate price in doing so.

Thanks for the helpful information. I called North Hollywood Toyota and the guy said I should just call a locksmith. Didn’t even think that was an option since the factory key fob has a blade key inside.

Just got off the phone with another dealer and they quoted $217 for part #69055B (cylinder key set). Come with two regular keys not the key fob key.

I have a tailgate lock. It was the first mod I did on the truck with the help of awesome people here on TW.

Absolutely friend! I rather pay for new locking unit than a new tailgate.

I sure like the idea with the 12 gauge. Good luck with a quick fix. 12 gauge, right on man, that's freaking awesome.

20 Gauge does as much damage, less recoil, a bit quieter. Got one in the house along side my AR-15 which really isn't a good firearm of choice if firing inside a home.
Just racking a shotgun should cause anyone to exit rather quickly. Those stupid enough to stick around all I gotta say is:
Say hello to my leeeeetle friend.

Sorry about that. This is one if the reasons as to why I have a front/rear dash cam recording 24/7.
