I had a recall on my front cat on my 2TRFE. I went under the truck the other day because I wasn't sure if they had to replace both or just the one. Then I saw what looked like a muffler clamp on the down pipe.

Where it gets weird: https://parts.toyota.com/a/63059867__6719902/EXHAUST-PIPE/674470-1702.html Edit: Sorry, you have to click "view more images" and it's the 2nd one for the 2TRFE (https://parts.toyota.com/images/parts/toyotaOEM/thumbnails/a1_174194I.jpg)

The last link, all of a sudden the clamp shows up. P/N 90461-12405 "Genuine Toyota CLAMP"

Now, maybe I didn't see correctly, but it sure didn't look like it was there to clamp the heat shield, it looked like it was there to clamp where they cut the exhaust off. I'll wait until day light to make sure I was just incorrect.

But does anyone have any insight on this?

Edit: I was totally mistaken, not sure how I saw it so wrong. Nothing was cut, cat was replaced as it should have been. Not sure how I made such a visual error like that.

Can you take a photo of what you are talking about?
I had the recall done in 2018. Don't have any brackets/ clamps hanging around down there tho.

They should not have cut anything to complete the Special Service Campaign (SSC).

If they did, they did it wrong and need to be called out on it.

They should have replaced the entire Front Exhaust Pipe Assembly which includes everything from the exhaust manifold outlet flange to the muffler inlet flange.

I was totally mistaken. I don't know how it looked so off when I first popped under, I even remember thinking that it didn't look like it was even holding the heat-shield on like you would assume. They didn't cut anything, everything is as it should be. No idea how I looked at it so wrong.
