I'm in the middle of making this swap as well (just sold the Taco on Saturday). The 4Runner rides way nicer than my Sport Taco.

Agree that the price is an issue, but that seems to be the nature of the market right now.

Does anyone have any tips on getting the best deal from a dealer? The ones I've talked to so far won't budge on used prices, and new is more than I'm willing to spend (plus they don't seem to be moving much either). Double-plus, all of the new ones seem loaded up with $2-5k in accessory crap.

It’s the nature of a 4Runner. Had same issue back in 2016 with no budging on price.

Yeah. It seems like it's worth it though, so I guess it just comes down to the dealer with the lowest markup. The new Bronco, etc. need to make it to the market to give consumers more choice, so demand gets spread around more.

We initially shopped used and determined it was better for us to buy new since the one we were looking for was maybe $2k more than the closest used one to what we wanted. And Toyota in general doesn't budge much on price. We were able to wheel and deal a little more on the new one. But as for used, the dealership explained that everyone already has their best price listed because gone are the days where you just went to your local dealership. Everyone shops online now and so everyone has to compete with everyone on that level

Traded the wifes 13' Kia for a 2021 TRD ORP last week and will never look back. Lots of "Car Reviewers" try to rate it low performance and shitty ride. But they tout its off-road prowess. Like they don't know you have to trade one for the other? FML, we know what we like to do.

Know what it is. Know what you want to do. And accept it in all its 4Runner glory. We are now officially a Toyota only family.

Mind sharing the price you paid? Also does if has KDSS or without. I'd rather have one without.

I’ve got a ‘16 TRD with manual transfer case that I’ll probably be selling soon due to a divorce. $26,000 would pay it off.

I believe the 4Runner Trail edition and TRD Off-road all have KDSS. Unsure about the Pro. The SR5 does not have it without being the trail edition.

Sorry to hear about the divorce. I'm sure it'll be a quick sell.

Probably going to get shitty actually. I have a ‘14 Tacoma that’s in her name and paid for. We financed in her name at the time for a better interest rate. I paid it off. I bought her the runner and still carry a note on it. She’s going to try to take my paid off vehicle and leave me with a note. She’s the one that left

    This^.

Yes I’ll share the price. $41750 out the door. 5500 for the trade in. Sticker was 44852 before dealer add on’s.

It’s an off road premium. Only options on the sticker were the predator steps, and a cargo cover and a vehicle protection package.

The dealer threw up a side sticker with $1900 in dealer installed options. Read instant markup. $600 for window tint, $299 for bullshit Nitrogen in the tires. $699 Zak Tek paint guard. $299 3M protection package. (Clear door tape)

This is the shit I hate. Nitrogen? I waited patiently, with a fire burning inside, for the right time to attack those add on’s. I initially asked for it all to go. Wouldn’t budge. Then I said I refuse to pay for Nitrogen, I’ll pay $200 for tint $100 for the 3M. And argued that they hadn’t even done the two additional paint protection applications I had to come back for every 6 months. I didn’t want to do that so take it off.

In the end, of the 1900 in dealer add on’s I got about half off. They left 1500 of the extras on the deal, but gave me an additional $750 in “savings” under a different line item. They claimed they would get in trouble if they took off all the extras by an auditor. Whatever just don’t let me see nitrogen anywhere. And I guess I’ll come back and have them detail the car with their fancy ceramic Zac Tec since in paid for it.

Now I’m not a great negotiator, but I actually attempted, and didn’t do too bad. When they wrote 42500 and circled it and said now sign here and let’s get the deal done. I wrote 41000 and said I’m ready to take it home and pushed it back. When got it to 41750 and he wouldn’t budge on cash, I asked for all weather TRD floor mats or whatever they had. Said no. Asked for a set of Terra Grapplers to be swapped on. Nope.

Ok I guess that’s it. I pushed pretty hard. But man they don’t move much in price.

Tex, you're not alone man. No one is in control of anything but themselves. You’ll get through it, but it is ROUGH. The other side, when you get there, will be just as rewarding. Sometimes even more so. Hindsight kicks in and you’ll see your marriage from a different place. There may be some real revelations.

I’ve been through one divorce with no kids and no assets and it was an easy and straightforward process. But it was still the hardest darkest time for me. Now I’m happy and bust my ass and try to do the right things, but in the end you rarely ever know or see it. So I don’t worry. I made it last time I’d make it again if needed. But man that experience is always there pushing me to be better. I’m actually better for the experience oddly enough.

Go for the 4runner. My wife got a 2019 OR Premium without kdss. We also have two 3rd gen tacomas. The 4runner is superior in quality. Absolutley incredible off road. It is a great truck. I like the Tacoma, but it is not in the same league as the 4runner. We paid around 38000 before taxes and tag a couple of years ago. I was at a dealership the other day and they only had three 4runners in stock. Seemed like they were all marked up 10 to 15 percent compared to "pre-covid" pricing.

    Awesome. Thanks sharing.

Am I the only bothered by the way that guy pronounced Toyota?
