Washed the truck yesterday evening. Looked clean. Now in daylight it looks like shit. Wax/water spots everywhere? Did I not rinse it with enough pressure? Just used a hose with a garden nozzle to rinse. Using turtle wax wash. Anyone got a tried and true suggestion for wash/wax?

Have you tried rain x for the windows? I use a really nice towel after to make sure I get all the water off, for any water spots I see the next day I use Meguiar’s quick detailer mist with a chemical guys microfiber. It works great

I have not. As ridiculous as it sounds, this is the only vehicle I’ve had that was worth washing. All other vehicles have been shitty/old and I never cared about washing them regularly so I’m a noob to car cleaning products.

Any specific kind of rain x wash you use?

Looks like it needs to be dried after your final rinse. I use a leaf blower to get most of the water off followed by a chamois.
A clean towel would work also to dry it.

Do they not make soap that doesn't look like shit with just letting it drip/air dry? I mean I will hand dry it if I need to. Sorry if thats a stupid question.

I've seen some soaps claim to help with this but trust me you'll be amazed how much better it will look when you dry it.
By the way, I used that user name (barf) a long time ago on some other car forum. :)

Guess I’ll get some good drying towels. Any recommendations for ones that don’t just smear water after one wipe?

My last name is Barfield, most people think it’s a Spaceballs reference

Awesome looking rig! Probably the nicest non TRD I’ve seen ( I have an SR) I’m wanting to do a similar trip here in Michigan. It’s even more fun when the kids get to come!

Just curious, is the wall you are talking about the fire wall between the garage and the rest of the house? If so are there any building codes for extra thickness along with the other fire wall codes in your area? worth a check and make sure that wall is up to code.

It may not be the soap, it may be the water you rinse with. A lot of water will leave spots because it isn't treated not to. next time you go by a manual car wash you will probably see a "spot free" option in the wash bays. That's usually fed through a water softener to reduce / eliminate the spotting. Drying it will help reduce the spotting, if you don't wash it in direct sun light.
