need an inside 12 volt source for front/rear view camera...

    2020 Tacoma SR5 v6 crew cab
    I am hooking up a front/rear view camera in my 2020 Tacoma and I would like to find good place, (easy to tap into) 12 volt source that is only hot when the ignition is on.... Is there anything under the dash or under the hood that would be good???
    I could use the cigarette lighter, but I would rather not have wires dangling all over the place.... any guidance would be sincerely appreciated.....

    Why not use an 'add a fuse' and tap into a 12v source in the kick panel fuse box?

    Another good suggestion, except I don't know my way around automotive wiring to know where to start doing that...

    1. Just buy an 'Add a fuse' for toyota type fuses.
    2. Then route the cable from dashcam, tuck it under the head liner to driverside A-pillar,
    3. then remove A-pillar cover and run cable to the dash without obstructing the a-pillar air bag, and drop the cable end into the driver side the dash behind steering,
    4. fish out the cable end from under the dash from the footwell, and run it towards the driver side kick panel, zip tie whenever necessary,
    5. simply connect/splice the 12v positive wire/cable from the dashcam to one end of the 'Add a fuse' and connect the negative to the negative terminal against the frame next to the kick panel.
    6. remove the fuse panel cover and connect the 'Add a fuse' to one of the fuses that is only hot when the ignition is on
    7. Done.
    THis is what 90% of us with dashcams do. Simple and easy.
    You're imagining it's difficult. Honestly, it won't take more than 15~20 minutes.
    I'm sure you can find a YT video too. YOu just have to try a few fuses before you find the 'only hot when truck is on' fuse.
    Don't forget to add the fuse you remove from fuse panel to the 'Add a fuse'.
    YOu can buy an 'Add a fuse' from even Walmart or any auto parts store.

    Looking inside the power port, you will see a square black tab on the bottom. There is a similar one on the top. Push both outward just a bit and pull the metal barrel toward you.

    From there, you can slide off the connector. The plastic cover will then pull out toward you also.

    The connector is easy to take apart, as seen in the pic. Pry open the two, small doors and release the small spring clip on the spades.

    It all goes back together like butta.

    I know you made a choice, but another option...
    I went under dash, then under center console around shifter, into the console storage compartment from underneath, then plugged into usb port. Super easy, invisible, no cutting, splicing, extra holes, etc.
    Just food for thought.

    Also easy to unplug it if security forces notices it on base.
