Hey guys, I need some advice. I am running on my stock 2015 Tacoma's SR5 suspension doing mild-moderate off-roading a couple of weekends a month, including running on the Oregon sand dunes.

The SR5 suspension is super stiff and not only is it killing my enjoyment and comfort while off-roading, but I am concerned I am going to prematurely wear out suspension-dependent components of my truck.

I have a friend who is offering his full suspension setup off of his 2018 Tacoma TRD Off-road with about 80,000 miles on the suspension for $60. This is super generous of him, albeit I know he used the truck pretty hard off-road too and thus these components have some wear on them.

I have already read the merits of swapping a gen 3 off-road suspension setup onto a gen 2 tacoma like mine with base or SR5 shocks and I know that it can be a good thing. In my specific siutation though, do you think it is worth the purchase and swapping out my current front and rear shocks and front coils for the off-road ones? I am really not interested in investing in a new suspension setup yet, I just want to improve its off-road performance a bit and help prevent unneeded wear and tear on the truck. Thanks for your thoughts in advance!

    Yeah.
My experience with Toyota dampers used under normal driving conditions is that they last between 30k and 50k miles. They may still work, kind of, but don't perform well. The Bilsteins might be good a little longer, but I even swapped out for 5100's on my 2012 Off Road at about 50k miles. Some people get more life, but I don't think any damper is going to be working well after 80k - 100k miles.

Those are cheap, and if you want the Off Road springs, might be worth it for just those. But I think you'd be better off just swapping for a new set of 5100's, assuming your truck has some miles on it. The dampers are probably worn out.

80K miles is a lot of miles. For the work that goes in doing the installation, I would just buy new.

At 80K on the parts, I'd pass and keep an eye out for someone selling relatively brand new OR suspension parts from a '20-'21. My '15 had 89K on it when I got it last September, the stock suspension was shot. I found someone on my regional forum who sold me his take-offs for a really great price, it made a night and day difference in the ride quality on my Taco.
