Mine still works: PL 5400 owned for a year.

replaced it in 2021 with a color matched one. the old non-painted one worked fine but was faded.

I ran a PL-8510 on my 1st Gen for years, with no problems. I installed a PL-8521 on my 2nd Gen almost a year ago, and yet to have any problems with it.

Pop & Lock will not help with broken parts if you purchased through Amazon. If you get one, purchase directly from Pop & Lock and they'll do a decent job at taking care of you if anything breaks.

Mine lasted 1 year. The secret is to be gentle, push in on the tailgate when opening ( or trim a tad off the rubber bump/stops to make it easier to pull the latch), keep it well lubed, and rattle can it when it fades....

I've had one on my 1st Gen for a couple years now. Works great, no issues. No paint fade either

Ive had the powered one for 2 years. It started to get stuck and not unlock unless i banged on the tailgate but the handle return springs were gummed up and the culprit not the pop n lock.

My pop n lock is the one that uses the tacoma key non electric one. The problem i noticed is when i lock it and open my truck bed the next day its just magically unlocks. Also if i lock it and knock on the tailgate a few time it just unlocks itself lol

My "new" 2015 has the code-able pop and lock on it. Uses the ignition key which is great. Paint faded to a mold gray, so painted it Saturday with Krylon fusion all-in-one satin black. Looks great. I will baby the handle though when opening.

My Pop & Lock popped today at Home Depot. It lasted nearly 6 years. The cheap plastic guts failed! Pop & Lock has known about the defect for years and should have fixed it. I don’t buy parts for temporary installation, but rather for the life of the vehicle.

I've had the electric one wired in to my power door locks since 2015. No problems so far

Mine has been fine going on 5 years now, but I'm very gentle with it and usually park indoors where UV can't attack it.

There definitely is a learning curve to how much force you use to open it and how you toggle the key/cylinder.

Mine broke after about 2.5 years. Definitely not a robust design for cold climates, where the plastic is more brittle.

Luckily I’d kept my OEM one due to the known issues. Reinstalled that and am fine without the lock feature now

Since April of last year, it worked great.. unitl... Someone tried to break it open with what seems like a flat head screwdriver. The handle flops around now but to my surprise it still opens and closes like the day I installed it.

The reality is these aren't hard to break into, if the said thief had more time, I'm sure they would of cracked it open. But if they did get that far, there's no way they would of got through Chris's ATD. Definitely worth the investment on top of the Pop n Lock

Update, 8 years later….it has failed. I’m going to take apart the tailgate and go from there. Hopefully it’s repairable.
