I noticed the alternator charging at 13.9/14.0 volts and decided to change it. I expected it to be between 14 and 14.5.

Changed the alternator (Denso) and the battery and have the same volts. Between 13.8 and 14.0. I immediately expected a bad new alternator but to have the same charging between old and new?

Thought I would put it out there to you guys. What are your volts like when charging? I have the 4.0 V6 with towing package so the alternator is pushing 130amps.

I measured the volts at the bolt on the alternator to discount any bad connections.

Found this thread (couple years old):
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/alternator-output-voltage.561465/

Thinking just to ignore the low voltage and keep on driving. I notice no detriment when driving.

    Let me know....

It's a smart alternator and won't charge more than needed, 13.8-14 is fine. If you had an AGM battery and wanted a boosted charge voltage there is threads here about that.

Also an alternator doesn't push amps, your electronics pull them. The alternator is just able to supply 130a

The charging rate of 13.9/14.0 volts is Normal. There was no need to replace the alternator.

Depending on ambient and engine temp mine charges 13.2-14.1, has since it was new so normal.
IMO charging a battery above about 14.2 for extended periods unless it's an AGM battery espesially in hot climates is really hard on it.

Agreed. I see new vehicles charging to 14.2. Up until the last few years, they all charged to 14.7. Yes it throws us for a loop, thinking its a weak alternator.
