Yea, I saw that! I was following them and getting the "newsletter" for a bit. Then I saw the price they wanted...

Agreed. I'm hoping once they sell a few hundred units and start paying down their CNC machines, the prices will slowly drop to a reasonable amount.

Dang I missed out on all the :crapstorm: talk!

I have a dometic toilet I originally got for my wife when she was preggo and spending a lot of time on the truck but I’ll be damned if it has t turned into one of my favorite things in the truck. When it’s super early and your gearing up to head out in the snow and nature calls... sitting in front of a heater inside is second to none!

speaking of heaters... I finally had time to get my propex installed and have one trip with it so far. It’s so awesome to have single turn instant heat.

Nope. The response was basically "buy a bundle for a discount (with stuff you don't need or want)". I also realized that my 32" spare fits underneath the truck no problem, so that's where it belongs. I really didn't want to put more weight out behind the bumper, so I'm happy about that.

An expanding wedge like Rigd, Wescott, and the new Dirtcom seem to be the best solution rather than a threaded bolt that pulls a loose receiver to one side and still allows it to wobble.

Hmm I’m trying out Yakima’s new exo rack. It has an upper level that really raises the bikes up. I’ll see how it holds up and let you all know.

1up will be my choice If this yakima one does not work out. Thank you rei for the free trial.

bahaha I second this! The toilet has turned into one of the best purchases! I’ve squated living out of my Jeep for a year and I’m done. Bugs biting me freezing and you name it.

I concur, bathroom with a heater in front of you is great. Especially for those early snow mornings that you drink coffee all the way to the trailhead. Unload and go.

dometic toilet for the win. The smaller one lasts me about 5-7 days.

forget the whole poop with a view... leave the drifter window open you still have yourself a view.

We have the Yakima, and we really really like it. It actually keeps the bikes pretty far back so you can fully open the tailgate without even swinging the bikes out, that's probably my biggest complaint as it obviously makes our whole rig much longer. But it's built super well and since the bikes are also a bit higher than if they were just in the hitch directly we haven't bottomed out on it. Yet.

Not sure this is the best place for this question, but I figure it's the most likely place someone might answer...

Any 3rd gen MGM or Voodoo Blue Tacos with a Drifter?

We're putting down a deposit shortly and can't decide which colour goes with a plain aluminum Drifter.

Any pics, including other gens but with same colours, greatly appreciated!!

I’m not a 3rd gen, but MGM. Plain aluminum looks fine.

Bare goes with anything. That being said, pay for the powdercoat.

Thanks fellas, just to make sure - is that Voodoo or Cavalry? And you mean powdercoat vs. leaving it bare? Other than aesthetics is there a reason to paint the Drifter?

This camper business has made me, for the first time, consider colour schemes...wife even threw a wrench in the gears by suggesting we have to match with our red canoe.

    Madness...

The bare 6061 aluminum will streak and show some light corrosion depending on what car wash chemicals and exposure you have to the elements. In my opinion, it's fine. If it really bothers you, you can take some aluminum boat hull cleaner/polisher and touch it up once a year like you would with washing and waxing your vehicle paint.

I'd be interested to hear the experience of someone that picks up a brand new Drifter in bare aluminum and then immediately has it ceramic coated. I've been thinking about doing the process above and then ceramic coating it to see how that holds up.

I have Cavalry blue! The oxidizing is annoying and hard water stains it. Sure, you can polish and clean it up but if you’re meticulous like me, you’ll polish each side to match and it is a full day thing IMO. Polishing the front is a PITA. Buy 30 microfibers cause you’ll get them all dirty. I love the bare color but I’ll always wish it had powdercoat (I’m wrapping mine).

My truck is desert pin-striped, high country rock chipped, and almost always dusty as hell. I could care less if the Drifter oxidizes a bit. At least everything matches now. :anonymous:

That’s how I feel, too. Although we don’t have it yet, but that’s why we’re skipping the powder coat.
