    Hello,

I have a weird one. I almost thought it was my automatic transmission slipping, but that's not the case. I want to see if anyone else is having this "issue."

Example: I'll be cruising at 60mph. I let completely off my accelerator pedal. Coasting. Then I go to lightly reengage the throttle - well any time I do this it's like my '19 Tacoma shifts ever so briefly into 5th and then once it realizes I'm not really trying to accelerate it goes back into 6th. I can make it do that every time no matter my speed or engine load it seems.

What is the world is going on?

Could be your torque converter lockup.

@Vlady had logged a bunch of data, wonder if he's seen something similar

Not sure, but probably chalk it up to the laughable Toyota transmission control on these trucks. It's so bad it's depressing.

I'd like to say most people experience gear hunting with the 3rd Gen Tacoma's. I'd also like to say, you may get a response that this is normal. What I can help with is that getting the truck OV/vF Tuned will help drastically with the gear hunting.

...but i could also be way off here

The TC is always in Flex Lock (slip lock / partial lock) while coasting. Getting on the throttle will raise the revs a bit until the TC goes back into full Lock.

Cool. So nothing to be concerned with? Thanks, Tonered.

    You're welcome!

As long as it isn't going for the limiter with gentle throttle, then it is pretty normal. A lot of times, the TC bouncing through the three phases (Unlocked fluid coupling, Flex Locked, and Locked) can feel like a shift.

Once you let the pedal off, TC unlocks. Then, I assume, the speed drops and the amount of be pedal at that speed calls for the downshift or SLU solenoid turns off in 6 (controls partial locking) for these conditions.
Try in ECT mode. Should be a different behavior.
TC locking/unlocking usually robs you off ~200 RPMS.

I believe your injectors also turn off when you move your foot off the gas pedal .
Then , once your foot is back on the gas pedal , the injectors fire up again .
A lot going on with these newer computer controlled trucks to save fuel and a lot of these fuel saving ideas create drivability issues that can really be felt in the drivers seat .

Yes. Deceleration Fuel CutOff. After a couple seconds over 1,400rpm, the injectors cut out. Coming on, they can really be felt when in 1st or 2nd on the MTs. I imagine it is the same on the ATs.

Not fun in downhill traffic or off-road, esp in the Taco. I never felt them come on like that in any other EFI vehicle.
