Finally got out on the water again. First time using the top as well and it works great for shade. With the center portion left open you can still get to the front deck for the live well and trolling motor and stand in the back and see where you're going.

My bad. It is no longer idling at 2k like it was. But its still acting like a stubborn asshole like it always has:frusty:. Triple cv carb kawis are apparently notoriously hard starters. Mine is no different sadly.

2014 Yamaha AR192. I had it for 3 years now and it's been a great little boat. Last year I wanted to go bigger like 24ft but then all that budget went to my new tacoma and mountain bikes. Probably was for the best.

Yeah, you did right. I've had a few boats. All of them were just a hole in which to throw money, the bigger the boat the deeper the hole. Great fun though. Know that in the end most people go back to a smaller boat for various reasons, not the least of which is the convenience of a single-axle trailer versus the hassle of a tandem axle. Been there. Never again. Congratulate yourself on the best decision made and count your blessings!

I was in the boat business. Twice! We made a good living because people just want a bigger boat. It is a rite of passage. Once you get the bigger boat desire satiated, usually we saw this in people over 50, most people then start coming down in size. I sold my 22-foot Skeeter BayPro for the 18-foot Kenner 18V130 that I should have purchased in the first place. It rides way better than that ill-designed battleship of a center console. Mark I have had the opportunity to drive many, many boats. Most of them brand new, without anything in them to change how they rode in the water, so each got a fair chance at exhibiting their intended hydrodynamics. How they ride has little to do with their size and much to do with the design of the hull. The discontinued Champion bass boat line was the undisputed winner, dry and "smooth" in stormy, troubled waters. And I say that having owned a Ranger. Using the same tow vehicle, the single axle RangerTrail trailer under it pulled way better than the tandem-axle McClain trailer under the Skeeter.

As for the tandem axle trailers: Convenience. I have never been able to move one by hand, walk up to it, grab it and move my boat when I wanted to. Had to go get the truck, connect it up and move it using the truck. Conversely the single axle trailers are easy to roll around by hand, move and connect. Also, buying bearings, seals and tires cost half as much. (I recommend oil-bath bearings, not greased bearings.) Regarding how they pull... that is more a discussion of how the towing vehicle pulls than how the trailer is towed. No trailer pulls as good behind a Taco as it does by a full-size truck. If a trailer does not tow well it is usually because a boat dealer did a poor job matching the boat to a trailer, or, in the case of a "package boat" the manufacturer used a sub-par trailer under their boat to achieve a competitive price point to compete against their competition who also did the same!

Over 15 years my dad had a 24ft and 26ft cabin cruisers. Full amenity package, cooking, shower, air conditioning etc. He was going into retirement and he decided to downsize to a 18ft barracuda cc with a 135hp ob. It has 600+ hours now with only basic maintenance. Hes happy with it. I think the most overlooked thing with boats or just about anything, is the aggravation factor. Most of us don't have bottomless pockets so it's aggravating to constantly repair luxury items.

My 19ft yamaha jetboat has been good so far. I get jokes from friends that own cabin cruisers that my yamaha is not a real boat lol. It's super light to tow, saving wet slip fees, yearly maintenance is 4 quarts of oil and 4 spark plugs. And it takes 87 octane and tops out at 50mph. I guess when they say "not a real boat" is that it doesn't have real boat problems

They can be so much hassle. I would not have a boat if I didn’t have it set up where I could just drop it in the water anytime I wanted. Spending hours getting the boat ready, trailering, launching, retrailering, cleaning it up after, seems like it would take the fun out of it.
