My truck and SUVs use weights.

The truck tire is 265/65-17 tires. There are about 4-8 oz of weight on these tires. They are Goodyear Wranglers. I look forward to replacing these tires.

I suspect it is based on a ratio between the sidewall and tire width. Although, I have no clue what that ratio would be for beads to be effective or become ineffective. Tire construction and quality may play a role too.

I havent used them since 2005, we used to use them on 35's that were unbalanceable.

They work but aren't as effective as a good tire and a good balancer.
