This is cool. Are those contactors? Looks like some form of plc.

Looks like a soft start without it’s proper NEMA 1 finger safe cover.

Yes its a soft start for a 200 HP 480v motor. Some of the covers may have been left OFF because of de-bugging after the install. Everything is enclosed in it's own cabinet. This pic is with the cabinet door open. Contractors installed it. I had to make it work. This is the motor on the other end. My trouble shooting rig for size reference.

I hate when covers are off! Nothing pisses me off more than someone disregarding future safety because it was inconvenient. I would of course see it all the time on plant floors in their electrical panels, I would do my best to locate parts and put things back together the way it ‘should’ be. Like Mike Rowe says. Safety third..

Yes I admit that I got lazy and didn't put the covers back on. Production was in a hurry too But not an excuse. BUT - This (\/ \/ \/) is what I get to deal with all the time. And it was this way when I got here years ago.

You think that’s big, you should see the motors for our Banburys. Several times that size.

what a rats nest lol. We have some panels in our plant that aren’t so tidy. Guess I have lots to look forward to. Finally got a electrician job in my plant. Starting my OTJT in a few weeks.

That's all I have pics of currently. And not really supposed to have them. :D We have several other big motors (lots of smaller motors, and (2) 400 HP (4160 V ????). I don't play with them much. o_O

Good luck Brother. I enjoy helping others. Give me a shout anytime.

Thanks I appreciate it. Most of our bigger stuff is back in our stock prep and mixing areas (tire plant). A few are 4160 I believe and the one motor (only 2 in the world) is actually a DC motor. Not sure where I’m headed yet. Hopefully I stay in our build departments if not I’ll be going into our curing departments. Our stock prep depts have a lot of old equipment and it’s dirty back there. I’m trying to stay out of there lol. Excited to start, hopefully it won’t be too much longer.

Don't be afraid of the dirty stuff. That stuff got me to where I'm at today. The clean stuff is always easier to work on. Get good at the hard stuff. The east stuff gets easier. Good Luck.

Our big plant now is 3 engine generators running 4160 and 2000kw each. I don’t do much in medium voltage but in a former life I got to see a 700hp 480v motor that when installed the pecker head was to small to fit the conductors pulled from the VFD!

Previous plant that I worked at had 6 of these motors driving water compressors (sprayers) for hydroforming. Huge Siemens VFD cabinets driving them. The company sent me to Siemens "Atlanta" for a 2 week training.

I seen 1 of the motors replaced one time. Required our HUGE Hyster fork-truck (with 3 men hanging off of the back) to keep the motor in the air.

PS: The peckerhead was a Hofman Box with bolt on terminals.
