Posting this question to the universe in the category of 'Will it work?'
    I have an 09 DCLB.
Will a 5ft Tacoma box bolt (simply) to a 6ft frame? Picturing it in my head, it would set the bed about a foot off of the cab, but look normal in all other ways.
This thought crossed my mind while brain storming spare tire mounting locations. Would it make enough room to mount the spare tire vertically between the bed and cab? A useful swing down device could be made for access to it.
In the remaining space between the cab and bed could be multiple storage options, like dry storage, water tank, ect.
Seems to be useful in theory, at least.
Does anybody have background in this?

No. You'd have to shorten the frame and the driveshaft a foot for it to fit. The foot difference is between the wheel wells and the cab.

Would be easier to bob the bed, but still not really an easy task.

He is looking to create that space/gap between the cab and bed.

Seems like a lot of work to move 1 ft from inside the bed to outside the bed. And not really gain any new function.

I think I’ve seen a picture of that done on an older Toyota when searching the same question before bobbing my 6’bed. The picture I saw, the guy put a toolbox between the bed and cab. I too like crazy ideas:bananadance:

Gotta make sure the bed bolt holes would align.

You would still end up with an autotragic transmission and a limousine length truck that bashes into things and does not have a swingout high clearance rear bumper (the common solution to this problem)

given that a 265mm tire is ~10" wide at the tread (and more overall with sidewall bulge included)
I doubt a tire would fit in 1ft width of room

Seems like a hell of a lot of work to make a spare tire/dry storage/fuel and water tank storage location when you could just either (A) build a storage area inside the bed in the same location or (B) just strap that shit down.

why get an extended range fuel tank under the bed
    rotopax mounted to the bedrails
and leave spare tire underneath in stock location

when you can hold trigger long time on a sawzall

That sounds pretty cool. Have you thought about just mounting the spare against the front wall of the bed?

    Let me understand this.
You are installing a 5ft bed on a 6ft bed frame in order to have the extra foot of front gap to store your spare tire etc...?
Kinda like what you currently have when you chose to buy a LB. Gotcha.

Although that cardboard design of @Bishop84 is intriguing if you decide to go that route and can make it work. Just make sure to give him a 4 wks build time for that custom cardboard design.
