Not to raise a ruckus, but that looks like the snorkel isn't allowing enough air into the engine.

Important question here: was the angle of the factory intake to the fender modified at all? If so I can see how this would happen, but if you haven't modified the OEM piece that imploded, I would be suspicious of the snorkel itself not letting enough air in.

This could be the reason why the Safari 05-15 snorkel is much larger in diameter than the popular Safari Hilux retrofit.

    Just a thought...

EDIT: Also, could be how you have the snorkel connected in the fender. Many factors there...

It's undeniable that the snorkel isn't big enough but the location never changed. I swapped it for 3in exhaust and it runs better and my mpg isn't shit now lol

I've always thought about one of these, but I don't really go offroad, so I would mostly just look like a poser.

The intake baffle in the fender works in conjunction with the baffle on the top of the motor to increase low rpm torque and to quiet down the engine. Yes it will rev faster if you take it off because there is less restriction. I took mine off and immediately put it back on, cause I do a lot of 4 low crawling and I could tell a huge difference. It works by making the income air resonate at the exact same frequency as the intake valves opening, so the low rpm motor doesn't have to waste energy sucking the air in. Kinda like when you roll one window down at 70 mph and it sounds like a Huey in the car with you. Yeah same principle. And now you know lol

Edit : man this is a major thread revive just in the name of science !!!

Just a shot in the dark, but does anyone who has installed the snorkel still have the template provided by cruiser outfitters for the 2nd gen tacoma and would be willing to let me borrow it? It’d be greatly appreciated.

Has anyone had any issues with these snorkels? no problems with restricted air flow, power loss, mpg loss? IMO this snorkel looks so much better than the new safari one made for 2nd gens. I just don't want to have any restricted air flow due to the smaller diameter of the tubing. Thanks

Has anyone with the 2012-2015 model trucks had trouble getting the Hilux snorkel to sit flush around the antenna? The fender seems to be in the way. thanks20190605_162945.jpg

Looks good! I just installed mine, would you mind sharing more pics with the snorkel?

Received the kit and this 3in exhaust tube came with. This wasn’t listed as a part and it’s not in the install instructions. Any ideas?

Should be able to use that to join the snorkel rubber hose to the air box inlet tube. I’ll see if I can dig up an old picture.

edit: found some pics of how I did mine-

I painted the exhaust pipe black, and used a fernco fitting from Home Depot to connect it to the oem air box tube. Just had to cut the end off it.

This was back in 2011 and the pipe wasn’t included, so I went to an exhaust shop and had them bend a slight angle and I cut it to length.

Quick question, has anyone noticed a loss of power or MPG’s? Thinking of my making the switch from my URD TCAI (going to miss the sound), hopefully I don’t notice a loss in power lol!

No I have not noticed any power loss. My advise is to re-gear if you want more power. Every off-road mod adds more weight and reduces power. The snorkel is not one I would worry about.

Thinking of ditching my URD intake and go for a snorkel. Couple of times my filter got soaked in rainstorms that would stall out my truck. Not worth the headache.

Have you looked into the firewall mod? I have an ARB snorkel and constantly worry about branches offroad. If I knew what I do now I would've gone that route.
