Hi everybody, I'm new to this site but I purchased my Tacoma in September 2020. Had a lot of enjoyable drives and time in the truck until last week when the air conditioning compressor grinded to a halt. I had my truck booked in for this Monday at the dealership in Whitehorse which is approximately 600 km from me. I had the truck scanned at my local mechanic shop and it showed a very large leak in the EVAP system. No code apparently for the AC compressor. The truck was usable for approximately a week and now it won't start for more than 10 or 15 seconds of extremely rough idling and then dies. Luckily for me Toyota has authorized the local shop here to work on my truck as the emergency roadside service only covers 300 km tow call.

Makes sense, if the AC / clutch is locked up it'll Seriously strain the engine. Was there squealing as well?

The AC compressor only has an issue when trying to activate. This will not affect the running of the engine except for when it tries to cycle the compressor on. I have the heater turned off completely. As for your question about the squealing of the belt from the compressor. No squeal just a nasty grinding noise initially that destroyed the bearing I am assuming in the front of the compressor. The truck ran fine for a few days as long as I never cycled the heat mode to defrost, it keeps the compressor shut off

It's 378 miles to the closest dealer? That's insane. Hope that local guy gets you going.

I work for highways in the Yukon, my foreman who is the head mechanic in the area brought his blue point scanner by today and it read the same codes, which are, large evap leak and purge system malfunction, as the mechanic shop in town that will be working on my truck came up with before the truck died, with the addition of the TPS sensor registering 18.5% while the throttle is not being depressed and when it is put all the way to the floor it shows no change. He is thinking that this is part of the problem but not all of it and will be bringing a better scanner by that can read more information on Monday afternoon
