    Good Morning all,

I've got an issue with my 2010 Tacoma 4x4 v6 4L, the mechanic noticed that none of my brake lights are activating and after checking all my fuses and my brake light switch I tested the plug itself and it's not receiving any power. Is there a way to replace the wiring at home without too much intense involvement or would taking it into a shop be best?

Are you saying the Green/White wire at the stop light switch has NO power?
If so, I’d make sure the fuse has power. I’m not saying to check the fuse.
I’m saying the part that the fuse plugs into needs to have power.

Let us know if it does or doesn’t?

the fuse boxes both in the engine bay and below the steering wheel where the tail light fuses are, are both receiving power and functioning as normal but the plug to the brake light switch is still not showing any power.

I'd check the continuity of the wire from the fuse box to the switch before replacing anything. Also look under the hood and the dash for broken wires and/or rodent damage.

    Do you have VSC?
If so, see if you have power to pin #5 of the Stop LP CTRL Relay
Pin #5 get power from the same Stop Fuse and same wire for a short period.
    Then it splits.
If not, the problem is probably close to the fuse box.
If so, do as @HisDad said.

There was a time when if I knew what color wire went to what, I could do most trouble shooting without a wiring diagram. Alas, with all of the computer controlled stuff on cars and trucks today, I'm often lost even with a wiring diagram.

That's why when I did my radio and new USB port installs, I installed my own fuse panel and ran wires to the various devices. The only thing I did was use an add a tap off of the panel light fuse for the scanner display illumination. That and used a DonGar more cable adapter for my Garmin Dashcam Mini.

My 2006 Tundra was simple compared to the current stuff.

check for wetting voltage at pin 2 of the stop lamp switch by the break pedal. Otherwise it’s likely a ground issue, how were you measuring for voltage?

I thought he said that he wasn't getting 12v at the hot side of the stop lamp switch? If that's correct, where is there a ground?

he said is not showing any power, does that mean it was checked for voltage? I do not know. How were the fuses checked, I hear “they are good”. Was voltage or ohms checked? Too much details left out to state what could be the cause. The brake lights share common power and ground circuits so it could be either causing the issue. Also could be a sneak circuit that is dropping voltage through the source such as the 87a stop lamp control circuit causing an issue.

Whenever troubleshooting it is always important to specify the as expected and as found condition, not just "good". Do not leave a stone unturned. Electrical issues can be easy or difficult or anywhere in between depending on the issue and the person's level of knowledge of the circuit and their skills at performing the troubleshooting.

If you have power (battery voltage) on both sides of the 10 amp STOP fuse and no power at pin 2 of the stoplight switch then the green wire is open circuit somewhere.. find the break and fix it
