So my hubs starting rusting within a month of buying my 20 Offroad new from the dealer. Got progressively worse until I couldn't stand the sight of it. Pulled them off, wire brushed the hell out of them, applied naval jelly, then painted them with Hi temp oven paint.

Recently did a suspension upgrade and when I pulled the wheels off, noticed a ring of rust forming again, so same thing, wire brushed em and resprayed them. This is how they look at the moment

I'm expecting the rust to come back. My question if there a better way to permanently keep the rust at bay? Would sandblasting them and then primer first then paint work better? I've never heard of anyone fluid filming them and assuming not a good idea to coat any brake components with that type of product. Is it just an ongoing thing to keep up with if you want them to stay rust free? I get that this is not a Toyota thing, as I see rusty hubs everywhere. Any suggestions welcome.

I clean and spray mine with Fluid Film every time I change my tires (winter/summer) and my 2018 hubs have next to no rust. Never had problems with the brakes. I made sure not to let too much get inside the drum.

One of the problems is that all of the best coatings require a longer cure time than just leaving your wheel off for the weekend. " Steel It " is by far the best rattle can solution but it has a long full cure time.

Interesting, I thought about doing this. So did you paint first, then FF, or did you just coat the bare finish?

Just have a machinist cut you a thin disk to put behind the rim and paint it Black.

Clean and prep, use a high-heat primer, then a high-heat paint. To others points, you need to let it cure, most of the time 48-72 hours between each coat to include primer.

That's most likely my problem right there. No primer and only let it cure a few hours.
