Forum: For a long time all I have seen for more Torque is getting a supercharger.
A big ticket item for sure.

I have to wonder what some cyl head porting and an extra point of compression would do?
I have been skiing and the hills are tough at 8K.
More grunt at 2K rpm would be nice.

No I am not suggesting this for a good running engine.
But for one that needs the heads to come off.
It seems like an interesting option?

Cylinder head porting is going to be just about as expensive as the supercharger (for quality work) and yield a much lower return especially considering the hp/$ ratio, even if you skim the head to increase the static compression. The stock rods/pistons will now allow you to rev the motor out to take advantage of a high flowing N/A setup. The camshafts are also not well suited for high RPM operation as they are designed around a OE engine that primarily operates around 2-3K RPM. Upgrading the camshafts and valvetrain (required) is at least 1/2 of what a supercharger.

Anything you do to the truck N/A is going to shift the powerband to the "right" away from "low-end", aside from a few select mods which help in that area. Intake manifold spacer, exhaust cam gears, equal length headers, and a tune are about all you can do to improve the low end and general powerband of these motors without shifting all the power to the higher RPMs.

    My 2cents.

I was thinking of pocket porting the heads, not a full CNC porting job. lol
Milling the heads should gain a half point in compression?
Together they should add some HP/TQ from idle on.

I'm surprised no one has done this?
But then again these engines are very reliable! lol

If I were to do all those mods you suggested using a -3* gear, 1/2” spacer and specU pipes, along with your magical touch, could I see 10-15% more power for my stock truck? I live at 1km above sea (3500ft). Thanks in advance, I hear your engine tunes are 110% worth it.

I'm interested in the intake manifold spacer.
    Does it do anything?

Nitrous Oxide, 125HP boost shot will work.

125 shot of nitrous will definitely fix the problem one way or another

    more than likely higher temps

the extra compression offset by detonation under load

essentially the 2 reasons most dont do what U inquire

a properly tuned SC will give U what is available long term
