There may even be some identifying information (bills etc...) in those piles of trash.

There are a few roads around here that people tend to be equally stupid and dump their trash etc (not even back country dirt roads, just roads LEOs don't travel frequently)...

You'd be surprised how many of them leave phone bills or other identifying information in their illegally dumped trash... There are folks in the county code enforcement/waste management who make it their life's work to track these F'rs down.

The problem is if it's really worth it to go after them. There is a non trivial amount of time involved in tracking them down, then you have to convince law enforcement to go after them. But even if you are able to track them down, it's not like the meth head who dumped it is going to pay the fines or go clean up his mess.

I can tell you from experience that law enforcement isnt going to spend much time, if any, on tracking anyone down for littering. With understaffed departments and an overwhelming rise in property theft from homes (burglary) and person on person crime (assault). They care but dont have the time or man power anymore. Hell just look inside any city in oregon with largish municipal LE and compare that to all the homeless trash etc that is never taken care of let alone prosecuted. It's sad but it is our current reality.

The truly sad part is that WE the public put up with it.

H377, auto theft is now a misdemeanor..........so if the perp is caught and prosecuted, the sentence is a wrist slap and a stern warning.

    Update:
I went to check to see if they had hauled off the trailer yesterday and not only was the trailer gone, all the garbage was picked up and a burnt out car from farther up the trail was hauled down to the spot for removal!

I am very happy with the outcome and look forward to cleaning up any other trash left on this trail.
