Hey, I installed the MBRP (turn down) XP series exhaust last month and have over 1000 miles on it but im not the happiest with it. Anyone in Portland area have a TRD pro exhaust (which i heard is made by Borla?). or other exhaust they like that's in the mid range of sounds and no annoying like MBRP's?

I may go back to stock at some point or TRD PRO exhaust as that seems to be one of the least annoying (though less intense) sounding exhaust for the V6. to me the Borla sounds like a 2.5 out of 5 on the extreme terrains "wake the neighbor" scale if you have watched their install videos they have a rating in the begining.

The side exiting MBRP they give it a 3/5 and the turn down MBRP they give it a Soft 4/5. though on this link and from what people say it's still going to give a drone on MBRP's side exit but perhaps its less cabin noise which is what im looking for.

here's a complete list on the internet of sound clips (i do feel some of these are the best comparisions because there are cold starts on a few sound bites, plus computers dont truly do audible justice)
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qzESQ3Zj4iI

Im 50/50 on the turn down MBRP as of now and hoping another month goes by and im more than 75% satisfied with it. reason being that just normal driving it sounds great. once a hill comes, acceleration to highway moderately it's very annoying in the cabin. decimals are 92-95, it that drone "hummm" that gets to me (and my wife!!! dogs in the camper shell dont seem to mind haha). it really sets off at the 2000-3000rpms on medium or moderate acceleration.

what would you suggest? I was thinking of adding the side exit tip if i can manage to purchase just that from extreme terrain unfortunely im out of the 30 day return window as i wanted to break in the exhaust more (do they even break in after a dozen or so miles?)
I may go by a dealer to here their TRD PRO exhaust (is that made by Borla?)

I feel that, especially living on a thoroughfare there is a strong desire to not be "that guy"...

If there was something a little more subdued but still growly, I'd be interested also.

looks like Stromung may be the only ones with the LONG bed options. running 4 tacos link is ONLY for the SHORT bed. FYI.

I’ve never ran the mbrp but I do have the pro exhaust and I’m a huge fan. More throaty than stock but it’s not annoying and doesn’t drone. Downside is it is expensive compared to other options out there

here is the side exiting Stromung. sounds like it could provide that happy medium sound close to TRD PRO (maybe a notch above?). more tame than the tucker version and hopefully more tame than the MBRP.

If you're still considering a TRD exhaust (or maybe you never were? I'm honestly too lazy to re-read the thread...) this guy is selling one for crackhead prices: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2020-trd-off-road-exhaust.692182/

I'll be in MO/OH in late May and could arrange a pick-up on your behalf before heading back to OR.

Would buy it myself, but the truck I'm picking up already has a TRD exhaust from the factory.

    .

hey, thanks for the reply. Thats just a stock TRD off road exhaust which I previously had. There’s the TRD upgraded exhaust with a shinny tip from the dealer is what I was referring too it’s about $700. After getting at OV Tune and my commune is currently 3 miles non highway, the MBRP drone isn’t that rough. But I’m sure when I move in the year I’ll be on the highway more and likely get the Stromung or Borla or TRD (the upgrade one, not TRD stock)

but maybe you were seeing that I might go back to stock which that exhaust would work. But I’ll likely keep the MBRP until I move. It’s now only annoying to me when on the highway which is rare unless I’m going on a little road trip 20mins outside of Portland.

Update: wife and I just drove to Bend this past weekend and over the year I’ve been annoyed with the MBRP on the highways and alight up grades on 30mph areas so I’ve decided to replace the exhaust. I’m going to research again and maybe test drive a Tacoma with the TRD exhaust that’s on the pros or get one that’s rated low/medium instead of the medium and medium plus aftermarket exhausts.

Go back to stock. A lot of people will hate me for saying this but any kind of aftermarket exhaust on a V6 will always sounds like shit.

It’s not like a V8 where damn near every performance exhaust sounds awesome.

Up to about a month ago, I would have agreed with you, but the URD U-spec V2 and Pro with a pre-axle dump have changed my opinion there. I didn't get to spend much time around that URD yet, but the modded Pro has me shutting off the music.

I have heard most all of the 3rd Gen exhausts, and the Pro has always seemed to sound good, easy to deal with, and be consistent.

Normally I'd be the first to agree with this statement but I just installed the full URD system and it sounds incredible. They did their research on pipe lengths/diameters and tuned the sound properly. It has a large resonator and magnaflow muffler so no drone and not too loud, just a proper sounding exhaust.
