I have a 2020 Tacoma and the audio will periodically skip while using android auto. I took it to the dealer and told them that i've already tried another cable and phone. They told me that there's nothing wrong with it and to try another cable.. I had been using USB 2.0 to type C so I I will buy a USB 3.0 cable. I looked at the input to the truck and it looks like USB 2.0 so i'm not hopeful that it will help. Anyone experience this?

Edit: my phone is a galaxy s10

Honestly I believe it's an android auto issue, does the same thing in my f150 w/ aftermarket headunit. Haven't gotten it once with Apple Carplay in either vehicle.

    Same.
    Stock head unit here.
    Free services come with flaws.
Mine skipped or disconnected via Bluetooth, many times as well.
My fix was stop using it.
Any APP connected to the truck, was uninstalled.
    Now, AM/FM only.
    All is well.

Despite apple's crap, i'm thinking about going back to Apple because their product always works.

I've been using android auto in my Tacoma for the past 16 months, with an S9+ originally and now an S21. I mostly listen to Spotify, but occasionally have used both Prime Music Unlimited and Audible.

When I first started using it I had I had some skipping, some disconnecting, and some times where it would connect and play but there was no sound. I have eliminated most of those issues, and the only problems I have now I think are due to a loose connection going over speed bumps or around sharper turns.

    1. A good cable was where I started, one that has a firm connection. This is the cable that I use.
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0784F9JP2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8
    2. I keep my phone in my pocket when not in the truck or charging at home, and noticed USB-C port collects a lot of pocket lint. I use an exacto knife to gently remove lint that builds up in the charging port (about every 3 months or so)
    3. If you have a case, make sure it isn't interfering with the cable fully connecting.
    4. This was a big thing for the sound problems, If you have connected to the truck using Bluetooth, make sure the settings are set to not use the music or phone over the bluetooth connection in the truck. It is a setting under the bluetooth settings when you show the settings for the Tacoma. I read on an Android forum at some point that when the device is connected to the vehicle in multiple ways (AA and Bluetooth) at the same time that it messes with both of them.
    5. In Spotify, I had more skipping when I had the quality turned down. I have the quality set to "Very High" and it works great, I am on T-mobile with unlimited data and the S21 is 5g but my S9+ worked the same.

Avoid the 12 if you live in a poor service area, no more 3g antenna means no service in the sticks.

I bought a fancy $20 cable, USB 3.2 and it still skips. My brother's Oneup phone has the same problem. So my friend plugged her iphone and after 1.5 hours no skipping. I just ordered an iphone to be picked up today. Idk what I was thinking when I thought to give samsung another chance with the s10.

Same thing for me. A 1-2 second skip, randomly every 20 minutes or so. I really only listen to Spotify. It even happens on downloaded playlists.

Andriod auto is trash. I have a galaxy 20+
it skips audio all the time, never picks up playing after getting back in the truck, it will stop randomly. today it would continue playing but no audio. had to pause and hit play again for it to play sound.
I am not a big Apple fan but when I had an iPhone apple carplay is light years better then andriod auto

Mods? We don't need no stinking mods.
Mine skips for a half a second every once in a blue moon. I just deal with it. It isn't neay as bad as Sirius/XM losing signal driving among tall buildings or through a tunnel.

I've also noticed that certain USB cables don't work with Android Auto. I bought a high-end 90° USB - USB-C cable last week that charges lightning fast but doesn't support Android Auto.

Yeah I had some weird issues like this a few times and I had to restart the phone. I was thinking that its infrequent, but i'm just realizing that its happened a few times in the 3800 miles since i've owned the truck. Here's the worst thing: My friend always said I made a mistake by leaving apple and now I have to give her the satisfaction of a blue SMS bubble and she will say "I was right!" :(

When I bought my 2020 I had a Pixel 2. Since it was an older phone, I attributed my performance (lagging, stuttering, etc.) issues to its age. However, I have since upgraded to a Pixel 5, with no improvement in performance. In fact, last month, it was so laggy and bad that Google Maps was noticeably chugging, and if I tried to play music (Tidal, Spotify) Android Auto would crash outright. I tried changing all sorts of settings, but it seemed to resolve itself after a week or two.

Honestly, I think it's either the head unit (slow hardware), or the app (poorly optimized). Automotive head units never pack the fastest hardware, and Toyota is know for preferring "reliable" over "fast". I think we got the short end of the stick on the 2020 HU. The one in my friend's RAV4 is noticeably more responsive.

I have had that really slow chugging issue before like it would take 30sec to switch screens. Ended up being the cable. Don't know why. Cable worked fine with everything else. Didn't play well with android auto.

I had apple carplay on my 2016 hyundai azera. That head unit had the crappiest hardware that it would take 15 seconds to boot up. Despite that terrible hardware, it never had issues with apple carplay. Im betting that the android auto is poorly optimized.

Get a USB cable that is designed for data and not charging. My Note 20+ Ultra works just fine with the correct cable.

Its not the cable. I've tried 3 different cables and the latest was this 1: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/insign...ed-10gbps-cable-black/6419159.p?skuId=6419159
USB-C to USB 3.2, 10mbps data transfer. I also confirmed that the head unit only has USB 2.0 so anything over that standard is sort of a waste.
