Assistance wiring up ARB twin compressor

I could use a bit of help wiring up my shiny new ARB twin compressor and corresponding CH4x4 dash switch. I do not have air lockers or the ARB manifold kit.

My questions:

In the interest of simplifying the wiring setup, would this setup work? I know it leaves 2 wires from the CH4x4 switch unaccounted for, which would have to be addressed.

 

Let me start by saying - take my advice for what it’s worth.
Nothing. Read and do with this at your own risk.

Yes, that should work assuming that the compressor has its own relay/solenoid.
It looks as if it does, since there is no mention of a relay on the diagrams.

The 2 unaccounted for wires would be for the switch illumination. (Switch lighting)
Those should be Red 2 and Black.

The other 2 , Green and Red 1 are for the compressor.
Green comes from a switched ignition source.
Red 1 goes to the compressor (probably the PUR)

Now, if you followed this, you will see that you’d just have 1 wire to the compressor.
I’ll have to assume again. It looks like the compressor is also used to send the ground to the switches (the ones you are not using).


Do this before you hook any thing else up.

Here’s how I would determine this.
Hook up the compressor to the battery.
Then plug in the big connector to the compressor.
Leave the small one unhooked.
See if the BLK wire is a Ground. (Let’s hope it is, or else none of these matters)
It looks like the BLK wire is the ground side for the switches.

Personally, I would wait and see what other say.
Since I’m going off a lot of assumptions based on the diagrams alone. (Which we are “modifying”)

 

Thanks for your response! I was thinking of something along those lines. Slightly different configuration though:

CH SWITCH GREEN: power to the switch itself, connected to a switched power source to prevent draining the battery too badly
CH SWITCH RED 1: to purple wire on ARB wiring harness, which is presumably +12V power to the ARB switching unit
CH SWITCH RED 2: to backlight circuit on truck, either TAIL circuit or tap into illumination wire on my unused seat heater wiring harness (if present)
CH SWITCH BLACK: to black wire on ARB wiring harness, which is presumably -12V power/ground to the ARB switching unit

This could easily be very wrong, so I'm glad to hear any feedback anyone may have.

 

That’s exactly my thoughts too!

The reason I didn’t mention the CH4x4 BLK to the compressor BLK, was because I’m not 100% sure it is ground. I don’t like telling people to hook up any wire I’m not sure about.

That is why is had the bold print above about “Do this first”
That way you can confirm what is what.

My assumption is one will be 12+ (When switched) the other Negative — (all the time. Even when not switched)

 

Totally understand. I'm fairly confident that the black wire on the ARB harness is indeed a ground, since it's the only wire that makes an appearance at all 3 switches. Not counting the blue-white illumination wire, of course.

I *may* end up redoing the ground wire connection in order to use an LED dimmer, so the backlight brightness can be matched to the other switches:

Any guidance on what color wires on other dash switches provide power/illumination? Or does it have to go to a fuse?

Is the idea to use a T-tap to connect the aftermarket switch to the backlight wire on one of the other switches?

 

On dash switches for illumination: Green (+) ; Green with white runner (-).

 

I guess I failed to mention I'm in a Lexus GX. Tacoma forums were the only ones with vague answers. Lexus forums didn't have what I needed. Sorry about that lack of clarity.

Photo is what I'm dealing with. I had read Toyota and Lexus wiring colors were the same but I only have one green in Traction Control switch. Have two in the headlight washer switch (I know...).
