    Hi All,
New here. I have a 2018 Tacoma, pretty basic (access cab, 4wd) 33k miles and have loved the truck. Unfortunately, had an accident. Body still looks great, but needs a frame. Insurance wants to put a new one on it. Toyota says 4 months to get a new frame. Any ideas? Would you consider a used one?

    Thanks

New one and be grateful insurance is willing to do so.

Just be sure the shop doing the work has great attention to detail. Lots of stuff to come off and go back on in a frame swap.

Would love to hear what kind of accident calls for a frame replacement with a body that 'still looks great' though. Or did you mean the body looked great before the accident?

Yeah, just wait it out and let them replace with new. You might have to buy a hoopty if it's undrivable.

I too, am curious how you can wade up a frame and not have body damage,,, but maybe I'm reading it wrong.

    Thank you,
I am very happy with the insurance so far. Long story on how, but short version is I hit the concrete base in the picture.

    Oh damn! That'll do it!
Looks like it punctured a pan or two also?

Hard to tell from pic, nothing to scale it, but that looks awfully low and out of site, the D that thought yellow paint was enough, needs his ass kicked.

Yes get the new frame! I had my 2003 frame replaced years back via recall and very happy I did. Now I have a 2016 precertified sr 4wd access and waiting for the weather to get better then I plan to treat the frame after I get it power washed and any rust removed. I highly suggest you treat the new frame with crc, or another product to protect against rust. There are a lot of posts about the different products you can choose from.
    Great luck. New frame

Reinforces the choice for new then. Don't need any potential issues dinking with fitting up a used frame to an unmolested body.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
My vote would be go for a new frame - NOT a used frame. A good used frame may be tough to find anyway.
My '06 got a new frame in 2015 by Toyota - the work was done in their body shop that had plenty of experience replacing frames. There were no call-back issues associated with their work.
I would strongly recommend that yours be done by a shop that has had similar experience replacing Tacoma frames. You don't want yours to be their first or second.
BTW, from drop-off to pick up for my '06 was 4 months, 4 days. Most of that time was waiting for the new frame. I was lucky in that Toyota gave me a brand new Camry to drive for the duration.
IT's kinda bizarre to see your Taco in 3 pieces in the shop - cab in one spot, bed in another, and the chassis & drive train sitting there waiting to transfer everything to the new frame.
Kudos to the tech who did the work.
