We CNC routed some pieces of the bumper in plywood yesterday, still 70% of the pieces missing here but all the crucial components fit.

Next step is to CNC some steel and start welding:bananadance:

Thank you- needed to be able to carry materials and keep my tent mounted and safe at the same time- helps keep the center of gravity lower and cuts drag on the highway and less of a target on trails having the tent mounted lower

The plywood was free.99, they were throwing out a freight shipping box at work so I took the good pieces off of it

Oh shit that’s great. I definitely paid a fair penny for the steel sheet, especially since I had to buy a full 4x8

Took the files for the frame plates for sliders off TW over to a fabrication shop, they quoted me at 360 bucks! I asked if there was any way to cut the cost and he said not really, it’s not even in the labor the price of steel has shot up significantly in the past few months. So at that price for the plates, and square tube I know I’ll have to buy... I won’t find that on a job, it’s debatable if it’s worth my time to fab them up or just buy used/new ones.

Yeah that doesn’t sound too far off, unfortunately. I have enough scrap 3/16 plate I could give you if you ever make your way to Albuquerque, especially since scrap/recycling prices aren’t worth a shit either

When making rocksliders, is it good practice to drill weep holes for water drainage?

Also with sliders, why do people make sliders with a square tube towards the middle of the truck then round towards the outside? I am thinking making them all round.

As long as you seal the tubes water won't get in to need weep holes. You can build them all out of round tube my new ones I had built locally are

The slider's I'm building, the outriggers from the frame to the slider's themselves will be stronger than both the frame or the sliders..... I ordered 1/4" wall square tube. Way overkill.
