Removing that section of exhaust had two positive outcomes.
First, it made fitting that 33" in place easy.
Second, I eliminated the potential of squashing the exhaust tip between a rock and the bed side.

The cut off didn't change power, MPG, sound or void any warranties. 5 mins with a Sawzall and you're done.

You can fit the tire an keep the factory exhaust but it is close. Just bend the to ears flat with a hammer and it will fit it will be close to the exhaust and the diff but shouldn't contact them. if this bothers you relocate the hanger back slightly. I've personally just dumped the exhaust on both my second and third gen with the 255.

FYI, got my spare to fit with zero modding. I run 255/85r16 Yokohama Geolandar MTs, spare is actually a 255/80r17 Toyo OC AT3 and completely deflated.

    Nice tight fit.

I wanted to chop my tail pipe off after the axle anyway so that the tip behind the tire would never get squashed if I were to drop off a ledge and pin it. With it chopped, the final hanger was useless. Off it came!

255/85R16 KM3 fully inflated, ready for service.

About to pull the trigger on some new wheels.

Currently running stock OR (+25mm) wheels, 1.25" spacers, and 255/85R16s.

I want to eliminate my spacers and go to a -12mm wheel. I needed the spacers to clear my JBA UCAs.

    My caster is good; 4.7*.

    I've got a ~2" lift from my 6112s.

For those with a 2" lift, running skinnies and a -12mm wheel, did you need a CMC? With the -12 rim, I'd definitely clear my UCAs, as the tire would be .21" farther out than currently. I'm concerned I would rub the cab mount. Prior to my current alignment, with the +25mm wheel and the 1.25" spacers, I was rubbing the cab mount and thought I'd need to CMC, but the good alignment fixed that. I'm thinking the extra .21" of poke would negate what I gained with the good alignment numbers.

Ideally I could find a 16" wheel with an offset of -6mm. That would match me up identically to the setup I currently have and I know I wouldn't need to change a thing.

Just had 255/85/16 BFG KM3s mounted up. Also got the shop to hang the spare. As others have experienced, they thought I was nuts when I said they’d fit.

Thanks to all who shared info on this.

After some digging through this thread: Is it just me or do the Cooper ST MAXX run larger than the MT equivalents? They look much bigger in the photos versus the other MT's posted here. Is that just because its more of an AT tread style and it LOOKS bigger? Or is it actually bigger?

They are actually smaller. They come in just under 33 inches (32.8" to be exact), where most of the MTs come in at 33.x

Oh really? Are these verified measurements or just the specs given by the manufacturer? It almost looks like the tread width is greater on the ST also. Could be just the aggressive knobs messing with the tire profile and making them appear smaller..

I’m getting ready to replace tires. I’m disappointed with my coopers st maxx this set and the set I had on my 2nd gen wore funny. Both truck had the alignment checked several times throughout the life of the tire 3k rotations and balance occasionally checked. Thinking yokahoma mt or toyo mt next

Well I feel the need for an UPDATE!

Cooper ST MAXX tires still going strong after last season and this season. Just came back from another 800mile trip and no issues whatsoever.

Planning a run here tomorrow towards Leadville/Gunnison/Basalt for a few days and to be honest I wish I had simply gone with these tires when I first got the Taco.

As far as the spare goes...yuppers it still is in place and still has zero issues even when abusing the hell out of the truck hitting things.

Just a couple of inputs after a ton of use on them.

This entire 156 page thread is about the fact that you do not need a lift, spacers, or anything else to fit 255/85r16 or 255/80r17 tires. Why did I just make it longer. Lol

Once you go tall skinny you won’t go back.

Well here is an update as we just got home.....tires were not the issue yesterday. The weather was testing how a 3 season tent would work with a fourteen week old lab mix puppy and our 13.5 year old border collie/golden/coyote mix...LOL......

Everything worked as advertised with the tires. Not a single issue with what we set out to do. Had some scraping on body armor where a larger tire MAY have helped but these things were still rock solid. Had some snow/grauple for several hours when trying to sleep but the buddy heater helped with keeping us all warm enough.

Weston/Hagerman passes were fine and we elected not to do Mosquito pass as the US Forest Folks in Fairplay said it "would not be fun" and as this was a "light trip" we elected to pass on that.

NO issues and zero reasons why I could not recommend the tires.

We could have elected to stay at 32 PSI for the whole run, however, we elected to air down to 25 PSI and that was the sweet spot for comfort our first day! Washboards weren't an issue, minor rocky shelf roads (albeit short stints for some exploration), it was a non-issue.

    So that's about it.

    Tons of fun!

Zero complaints with the tire setup!
