Hello, nice to find the forum. Just got a 2017 Tacoma. Very stoked, except it changes gears alot and seems slow from the start. Did some research and this truck already had a service at Toyota to address these issues, but it still does it. More research led me to an OV Tune as a solution, but evidently they are unicorns. I'm looking for a unicorn, can anyone help me find an OV unicorn. Does it work, who does them, how much are they? Is it worth it? And lastly, is a Jeep Gladiator better than a Tacoma? Just kidding on the last one.....

You can do it yourself by purchasing the software and cable and diving deep into that world, or you can be lazy like me and have someone do it for you. It helps if people know your location, as a person nearby might be willing to help you out.

Welcome to the TW forum Will

I'm just starting my second week, and have found that using the ' S ' on the selector has worked for me
so far and I'm not a big fan of aftermarket tweaks.

Thank YOU for YOUR Service ;)

Thanks guys, especially Rock Lobster. Only mod I've done is to put 265.75.16 BF Goodrich ATs on the truck. The good news is they fit great without a lift and look sweet. Bad news, took about 2 mpg from me and are heavy so my truck is slower. I'll probably take Ryan's advice and hit up Dutchcontractor in Tennessee once things are settled from the move. Thanks again.

No prob. It also helps to ask a lot of questions with whichever member helps you out, get to know them, the install process, and what kind of tunes they do. Only recently did this whole scene get real complicated, and it was almost overwhelming for new guys like me to decipher what was going on. To summarize, there is a set of tunes offered by OV, and there are a whole series of tunes developed and improved upon by members on this site. Most people here offer the member developed tunes, as they tend to have the more dramatic "kick in the pants" response out of our engines. Some people will take the time to tailor those tune files even further to make it fit your personal habits and how your truck is configured, while others will just flash the file "as-is." Requested costs tend to reflect that and how many hours they spend prepping the files for you. Both methods result in happy customers.

I'm currently running an older tune developed by TW members, I think its an offshoot of the "mild and wild" file. Most tuners are now on the new and improved "KDMax" or "Kruiser" files. There are threads floating around this site on those tunes and a summary of their characteristics. Either way, its a night and day difference from stock. Punch the truck and it goes like a scalded ape. Shifting and road manners are improved. It will tow a trailer like it should. I did lose 1-2MPG on average, but that is mainly because the tune changed my driving habits. If you drive it like before, mileage is supposed to be the same. I find it really difficult to get the truck to behave like it did before, however. :D

Good luck, have fun with it!

i know dutch offers the KD and Kruiser.

I would certainly recommend a mooseditty tune, the Ultimate Daily. It hasn't been pushed out as hard, nor are there 25 distributors but it is very well balanced. I've been pushing these tunes and working with moose on pushing development.
Just look out for stat sheets and consider what you might trade for power in areas. Would you be down to lose 90lbs torque at towing rpms (2500) for 25 more hp at 5500rpms?

not sure many are taking about that.
i think your timeframe @WILLIEwillabur will work for you since OV is doing some beta work to release a map switch feature, we are going to have done really good stuff out there in a few weeks to a month

Thanks again. I'm just looking to stop the truck from constantly gear hunting at highway speed and have more power at lower rpm, basically a stronger start. Not sure which tune that would be?

Depending on how much time you and your tuner will have together, he may let you try em out and decide
