    Hi,
I am about to trade my 2012 TRD Sport (as recommended by mechanic) due to rusty brake lines and previous repairs to power steering line plus transmission cooler line.
While the 3rd gen. trucks haven’t been around all that long, have the rust issues persisted or have things improved?
It irks me to be buying another when the previous one had a rust problem, however, Tacoma still seems like the best bang for the cost of buying a replacement.

Which product do you use? Just curious because I used fluid film on the truck right when I got it. Inside the frame, on the surface and everywhere underneath you could think of. Have you found success with fluid film or a different product?

I've owned toyota trucks since 78, biggest issue was always rust. Finally decided to do something on my last 2001 tundra using fluid film, but found it a real pita every year making sure i did it. If you in the northeast Fluid film wash's off by the end of winter. If its not done by next fall these toyota frames start showing surface rust.
I bought a 2020 tacoma...this time i used cosmoline rp-342. So far after a harsh salty winter this stuff still looks like it was just applied. I suspect this stuff will be good for a whole while longer not having me to repeat this messy job every year.

I was under my truck today taking my step rails off and the bottom of my truck is still pretty much coated in the fluid film I put on last October. Fluid Film works great unless your one of those people who go to the car wash in the winter and blast the underside of your truck in which case you will wash off the fluid film by winters end. I don’t do that my undercarriage looks like new only ever used fluid film and I live in the rust belt. Your $ do what makes you feel comfortable but don’t get to hung up on it I see a ton on new trucks in my area with rust and they ain’t Toyota’s.
