2012 Regular Cab 4WD 5 Speed Manual - SCORE

Hey guys,

After about a month of searching I found the Taco for me. I had to drive over 5 hours to see it and 5 hours home with it...but it was all worth it when I got it on the lift for a complete inspection.

This thing is pristine!

Super psyched to have a pickup in my garage again. The first time since I sold my 1984 GMC S15 in 1992.

I'm in the midst of figuring out a CEL on it. I think I have it tracked down to a bad rear o2 sensor.

Anyway...psyched to be a Toyota owner for the first time!

Nice find! I miss my regular cab tacoma sometimes, it was a really great all around truck.

The 2.7s had a recall on the catalytic converters, check to see if yours was done. If it's a p0420 code and hasn't had the recall most likely that's it.

I'm not sure if the converter recall was accomplished. I guess I could check with the local Toyota dealer. I'm trying to keep this truck a little on the down-low with the dealer, because I was over there and test drove one off their lot that I didn't buy....so now I show up with one I bought elsewhere? No big deal, but I went to high school with the salesman....so maybe a big deal to him.

The code set was P0138 Bank 1 Sensor 2 high voltage. Per the interwebs that's the downstream O2 sensor is the likely culprit...as no oxygen is registering in the exhaust when the ECU is trying to produce a lean condition for testing purposes. The wiring looked good and the sensor was getting power with key on...so I ordered a new sensor. I've chased enough CEL's over the years, I know this is a 50/50 thing....I was encouraged that the sensor appears to be pretty old...so it's not like someone else already tried the "easy fix" and it didn't work.

Thank you , and I use it as a truck when I need to haul things. It moves well enough for me with the four cylinder and if you put foot into it , it will respond.

 

I have a Caravan when I need to haul people or vacation trips.

 

Them Reggies are a dying breed. Wished they never stopped making them. They are so awesome looking. Yours is especially nice. Big congrats for you here.

 

I don't know why,they seemed to be selling. There is enough room behind the seats for a small tool bag and spare jacket when needed and at six feet tall I am not cramped. The six foot bed has the room I need for hauling lumber and materials.

I bet it boils down to they can make more selling an extended cab then a regular cab. As I said, I looked for a month and had already decided to find a good one with less than 125,000 miles I was going to have to expand my search to access cabs as regular cabs are VERY hard to find anymore. For me the downside to the access cab is the overall length of the truck. The only garage bay I have available is a shorter one where the regular cab will fit easily, an access cab will fit with no room left over whatsoever, and a double cab won't fit at all. AND...I bought this to use it as a truck...not to haul my family around....so actually finding this regular cab in 4 wheel drive with a manual transmission...from an individual priced lower than what dealers were asking was what made me drive 5 1/2 hours to try to buy it and 5 1/2 more to get it home.

That's a good find there. Reminds me of my story when I drove to a few hours for my Regular cab. Clean truck you got there for sure.
