My old Gen1, single cab, windups, 2.4, MT. Mismatched cap. A work truck. Reframed. Nimble, could push a plow. My gen 3 with MT and a 6 is stronger, much bigger. Very nice but it will have to grow on me to like it better. Good find.

I know flowmasters have that noise canceling that sorta works at idle but when you rev it it makes that hammering coffee can sound

Damn that things not even broken in with that kind of mileage!

And yeah, manual everything is the way to go. My previous car (VW Passat) had electronic everything, sunroof, heated seats, etc. and while it was unusually reliable for a VW and never had a single electrical gremlin, every morning when I went to start it I would ask myself “is today the day that something fails catastrophically on this thing?”.

Oh man those are some great stories. I loved the small simple trucks/cars they used to make. So manual is a little retro and cool.

And I see a fellow Vermonter here, hello!

Yea getting used to a bigger truck for sure. Even the bench seat is old school, you can swap em out for tacoma buckets I'v seen but then how do you exit the vehicle from the passengers side on a busy street. Im seeing the merits of simplicity.

That's crazy that you found not only a manual 4x4, but also a `12 with only 14K miles. That's a great find! And it's always great to find other 2.7 drivers on here. We're a rare animal.

Truetracs are awesome, I’ve had them in other vehicles and honestly they are enough locker for most people in most situations. If you’re crawling and/or have a tire off the ground they can be a little hard to get them to lock but there are workarounds. Beyond that they really instill a feeling of confidence, not just off road but also in regular slippery and wet conditions (I’m in Seattle and mine used to engage pretty regularly on parking garage ramps and steep streets in the rain). Also loads of fun if you kick the back end out for a little drifting action :)

I’m kind of amazed they aren’t standard equipment in more trucks

With the truetrac do you chew up tires since its in locked all the time? Or all the time except for off roading its a LSD? Does it screw up the traction control?

its basically a gear-based LSD (as opposed to a clutch-based LSD). It engages when one tire starts slipping. Not sure about traction control, probably depends on the vehicle but my guess it TC would sense fewer moments where it needs to intervene? Most TC systems are just creative use of brakes
