about a year and half ago..my bsm warning light came on...so i shut down the truck...it did it again...so i cleaned off the sensors with both air and water....let it dry out....no dice....the dealer said i needed sensors....about $2200....i laughed and walked away....later the warning light went off and it ceased working...for a few months...then i tried it..it came on...but the mirrors blinked like there is something on both sides....so i shut it off....then mid winter...it inexplicably healed itself and started working ....that didnt last long...now its back to blinking....any ideas? what should i replace? sensors? control unit?

Sounds like bad sensors to me. When you cleaned them, did you clean the backside, where mud tends to accumulate inside a bumper?

Imo, all this electronic sensor bs seems to create more headache's than their worth. I've experienced some weird issues myself that can't be explained with one or 2 of these systems on my 2020. While they don't affect the drivability or performance .... why can't toyota build a simpler truck without so many computers?

I'm under the ideal that he should delete the system myself as well. The truck still has mirrors and he still has a brain, so why rely on built in nanny's to hold your hand when you drive?

    Yeah.
I just helped someone install an aftermarket bumper, and I had the task of freeing his wiring harness from the stock bumper. This guy keeps a pretty clean truck, but let me tell you, the amount of mud that accumulates in between all that plastic was amazing.

My BSM quit working a couple months ago. I tried a few of the hacks I found on TW, but nothing worked. A couple weeks later, the BSM mystically fixed itself and is still working today. JoeBob, be patient, it's black magic.

Because there are enough stupid people out there with their distracted driving, basic obliviousness of their surroundings, complete self absorption in themselves, that the insurance and auto industries have resorted to using nanny tech vs being sued. It ultimately comes down to reducing their liability and for what it's worth, I do like the nanny tech.

They do, it's an SR with no options.

    Turn it off.

Unfortunately i couldn't get the sr with the stuff i wanted, but getting back to these sensors i was able to find out it was the lane departure system the one causing the mystery beeps, and now its off.

Was that the one that went off when you drove by the same house every time?
