Now that is cool! I've never seen a conversion quite like that, using the original bedsides. Your Dad is lucky to have you. Do you live close by to him? Both my sons live too far away to be of assistance when I need them.

Your credit score has more to do with the type of your available credit, than your card balance. For example, using an equity line to pay off a credit card, then closing said account will make your score go up. You end up with the same amount of debt, but it's now deemed a better quality of debt, backed by real estate, and if you're using the standard deduction, has no tax implications.

One thing about a home equity loan you should know: don’t refi your mortgage to get a home equity loan unless you first consider the tax implications. You lose the mortgage interest deduction on your federal taxes with any refi of a home or secondary home.

Sorry for slow response. You forgot to tag me in the reply.

Yeah, I have done the same kind of bed on one of my trucks too. I made mine a little different, but same kind of re-use of the bedsides. I incorporated the tool box vs Dad's where it is stand alone. Also used my original tail lights and made a storage area under the rear part of the bed.

    upload_2021-4-20_20-13-2.jpg

I live right next door. I bought the place so I could help Mom and Dad stay in their place. They live on 9 acres and the house is old. They can't afford to pay for help on about anything.

    @Wsidr1
I can’t stand wasted space, so naturally, a creation such as your flatbeds is appealing.
I applaud your sense of responsibility to your father! My own family has spread to the winds, the all too familiar “wanna be on my own” syndrome. Nobody expresses even a mild interest in my lucrative business, which will be sold when I’m gone.
Your father is a lucky man, and you are most welcome to post in my 80+ thread in his stead!

Regardless, get yourself a RFID protected wallet, to thwart scanners. We were both scanned at a local restaurant, cards were never out of our wallets. Our accounts were locked, and a fake email appeared next day, telling us to "verify" our pin to unlock. Instead, went to our bank, insisted on new cards (with new account number, voiding the compromised one). The bank's new-ish manager didn't really want to.. but I can be very persuasive.
Especially when I informed her that there are databases of every possible pin number combination they can run your card account number against, until they get a hit. Then our accounts would be emptied automatically. I was surprised she didn't know that.

I wonder, I have a couple dark mylar covers intended to block windshield traffic signal devices. Would those work to block card scanners?

I wouldn't bet on it. These criminals are sophisticated. Once they clean out your account, they'll sell off your info to the highest bidder. Once it's out, it's worldwide.

After 52 years of marriage Alan, Patience is my best virtue. The Missus can run into to a store just for "5 minutes" Pick something up and come out 2 hours later . Thankfully I get a nap.
    How are you doing?

Ken, been there dun that too many times. Gotcha beat by 3 years on waiting for wifey. I park in the handicap, go get her an electric cart, then take off for Home Depot myself. Almost down to a science now. Still, there are those times that ignorance trumps common sense: Last visit to Walmart, she called to say she was in the checkout line with a full load in the cart, I parked in the loading zone for her, but the Greeter wouldn’t let her out the door with the electric cart. She can’t walk at all, so stupidity ruled the day. Modern enlightened society in the 21st Century.

Damn Alan. I see people at our local Wally world and super markets taking the arts out into the lot, not just the loading zone. He was probably just too lazy to have to go get it when your wife got to your car. Some day he might be in the same situation and be madder than a wet hen because some young greeter won't let him take it to there car. Please be safe and have a great night.

Ken, the electric carts locally are being hit by thieves, so I do understand the desire to keep them inside the stores. I ignored the Greeter's admonition earlier when I took the cart out to my wife at the curb, so she was probably laying in wait for her going out. My wife played by the rules and refused to do as I had done, and waited for me to bring her wheelchair. I hate when my wife doesn't back me up!

Been a while since anyone posted here. Anyone still kickin'?
I can't be the only 80+ Taco owner here. ZZZZZZZZ
    Am I?
I'd like to generate a little interest among the seniors here, 'cause the sub-senior (60+) thread doesn't interest me all that much. I don't wanna talk about filling up coolers and sitting on porches, and if I post a picture, it sure won't be a pork butt in a smoker!

Come on guys and gals, let's have some fun! What gets you going better than getting a compliment from a stranger (opposite sex) in public? I guess I'm of an age where I'm everyone's Grampa image, and the gals tend to get a little braver with smiles and conversation for the old dude. To be clear, it's not me, I know, its my attire. I like penny loafers, Big Ben shirts, Panama hats. My oldest son gave me a sheepskin jacket for Xmas, never had one before and I like! I just have to remember to trim my beard 'cause the mountain man image gets those very same gals to cross to the other side of the street. A good day can go sour so quick!

    You're a rare geezer!

I can guarantee almost none of your contemporaries have your same level of tech savvy.

My dad is nearly 20 years your junior and there is no way on earth he would understand how to create or maintain a forum membership.

So kudos to you for accomplishing what many who fart dust simply cannot!

Editors note: it's possible I'm underestimating the elderly's technical abilities here, but based on anecdotal evidence collected throughout my life... I am not.
