I was watching that while eating lunch today. Still haven’t bought any comms myself besides an inReach Explorer+.

I have one of those. It’s seen a lot of use over the time I’ve had it. All my big trips I run the tracking.

I’ve only used it on one trip so far. I use Gaia for route planning and making tracks, but then also load the .gpx onto the inReach for redundancy. When I’m going in unfamiliar places I’ll usually track with the inReach too so I can get back to where I started if need be.

Not a lot happens on GMRS. It's ridiculously quiet for the most part.

There's a movement in some of the FB groups to designate Ch 18 on GMRS as an unofficial "overlanding channel". Someone is even making stickers.

    Minnesota uses Ch 16 (4×4).

I have stickers coming for 16 and 18,

18 is just what one group was using and it’s spread to a few other groups. Either way it’s easy to switch up and down. I monitor 18 or scan.

Add me to the CB users group. Running an old uniden unit. I actually got the guts to do a permanent install, even though it’s not and I mostly plan to use it for trips. Plenty of leg room for passenger as well. I used a mag mount antenna which worked well on the southern TWAT RUN. but planning for a firestick mounted on the roof rail like @Thatbassguy has.

Got a buddy hassling me to take the ham test, so something like that might be in my future.

I also like the GMRS option purely for the range.

I just traded my truck in last night and left my cb mounted in it. A sexy new CB is on its way!
Just need to get a tailgate mount , 25’ of wire and a 3’ Firestick! (Maybe 4’)

    I’m not a expert! Lol

I like the roof rack mount idea.

The old cranky bastard at the Pine Cone truck stop said to mount the antenna on the front bumper for the best reception.

Once I get all my stuff together maybe James can do a tune on my CB or roll out to the Madison area.

That settles it, Roof mount ordered.
I figure the higher the antenna, the better reception.

I think @Atrox1529 has a mount on his roof rack.
    GMRS I think.

Since my New Cb is on the way…….

Anyone have a Midland 75-822 with a auxiliary mic?
    I’m looking at buying
Midland AVPH10 Shoulder Speaker Mic With Swivel Clip
    https://www.walcottradio.com/midland-avph10-speaker-mic-p-3399.html

My plan is to use the cigarette plug and just disconnect antenna (roof top magnetic/rear mount Firestick) and leave in the armrest when not in use. I thought the aux mic would be a good idea with it hooked to a antenna and plugged in the power port at the same time.
    Any help would be great

Relentless Fab hybrid bumper, 2.5” Dobinsons IMS lift, RCI skids and sliders, block heater. Rola rack. Painted FJ Steelies. Was trying to keep it stock, now slowly building for the Wisconsin trails.
I hadn't though of using an aux mic. I usually have the radio in the left cup holder or my lap on group rides. The radio has a belt clip on the back so you could try clipping that to your shirt, but it may be a touch cumbersome.

I was thinking with my manual either a remote mic or headset version.
