Works fine here in Oregon winds. Obviously if winds are too high you should stake and tie town.

Thanks for sharing the pictures on the Prinsu. Looking closely did you have to add washers as a spacer underneath the bracket to clear the Prinsu side bars?

Also, I have the same canopy and side windoors - any issue with them opening fully when the closed awning is on?

I did add washers underneath as spacers, only because I flipped the mounts so the awning would sit slightly higher on my truck. (Trying to avoid having to duck to walk under it, I’m 6’1”)
If you put the mounts on the other way, you wouldn’t need any washers/spacers.

No issue with the windoors opening fully.

That looks solid! Put my order in a couple weeks ago on Campsaver, they're quoting an early June ship date... I'll be sliding the mounting hardware under my CVT Mt Hood, could be a little tight so I might have to explore other mounting options (CVT now has a mount that goes directly on the Mt. Hood).

Are you attached to the topper AND the cab? I have a 270 on order for my DCLB and planned to attach to the Thule rack on top of a Leer topper. I assumed I'd just attach it with two brackets to the Thule Aeroblade load bars, but maybe that's not enough support.

Mine's just attached to the topper - don't want cab flex messing with it.

Also, I had it deployed a couple of days ago out at the beach - got three people asking about it already.

No, I have all 3 brackets on the shell. It’s just shifted forward. Attaching it to the shell and the cab would definitely be a bad idea haha

It is kinda heavy (74 lbs I think), so I would check the load rating on your rack.
I wish someone made a folding awning mount so it wasn’t cantilevered off to the side when bumping around. Would be nice to have it lay flat on the rack and flip it up when it’s time to deploy it. Especially with heavier ones like this.

74lbs shouldn't be a problem as the Aeroblade rack is rated at 220lbs overall. I agree that a hinge & latch would improve this, allowing it to ride flat on the load rails, but if I add a third load rail or even a midway bracket to the Thule T slot, it should be no problem. Until I roll the truck. :)

I own the passenger side version. It is installed on my off-road square drop trailer. Works well and is well constructed. I really like it a lot.

So I’m anxiously awaiting mine to arrive on the doorstep and thinking about uses... has anyone with the walls successfully heated the space up? Realize it’s open by the back tailgate and under the car - not perfect heat retention. But curious if it can be done (w/out killing one’s self with CO)...?

I doubt anyone has tried that at any temperature because it will be either unsafe or impractical. That said, a trailered 20kW diesel generator and a dozen sealed element electric space heaters should heat the space measurably, and with careful placement of the heaters could be reasonably safe at 15F and 10MPH wind.

You absolutely do not want to have an open flame or sparks anywhere near this awning for reasons you obviously already know (I say obviously, because you haven't burned yourself up yet, demonstrating that at some level you understand the risks of building fires beneath flammable materials). I wouldn't risk using a propane or kerosene heater inside a space where people can knock them over or knock flammable objects over near them. Cooking is a continuously monitored operation, so the risk of open flames during cooking is low but never zero.

Something that could work well and be safe is to heat rocks or water at a remote fire, and carry those back to the shelter to warm your feet.

I use Carhartt thermal coveralls, layered fashions, and/or Land's End hooded coats to heat my camping space. It's easy, works well and, so far, hasn't caused a safety issue. In other words, dressing for the weather is easier, cheaper, more effective, and usually safer than changing the local weather to accommodate an outfit.

Got one of these on my pop up - it fits like it was meant for this thing. Unfortunately I don't have a pic of it opened up. If I were to put another 270 awning on the other side it would match up perfectly and enclose the camper in a perfect full surround awning. Very seriously considering it.

I don't have experience with the side walls - they would hang too high when the camper is raised so I opted not to get them.

Please don't mind the failed painting endeavor on my A/C cover.

I was looking at awnings and it just seemed like a lot of cash and depending on where the sun is you may not get great shade. I was personally looking into getting something like this instead. Might be more comfortable and cheaper. Totally different setup but might be worth considering if you have not thought about it at all.

Those work great and are a pretty solid staple of the frequent camper! I've got two - one light duty, one heavier, use dependent on conditions.

Ideal simply for ability to move it to an ideal location at the campsite.

ive gone through a few of those pop up canopies. they all got destroyed by high wind, mainly at music festivals.

i am now using an alps mountaineering tri awning, https://www.alpsbrands.com/alpsmountaineering/products/tents/tri-awning . They make one with steel poles too, which i would recommend since i broke a section of one of my poles and am on my second set.

kelty makes something similar, and other shade tarp things. these all pack down pretty small and arent super heavy too

    Alright here is my 2c

I've looked at 270 awnings since i got my truck. I was super stoked to see these. I pulled the trigger on the LT and probably would have paid more for the thing. Its very well built. Brackets, fittings, and material. Tested it out in 100+ weather for the first time. couldn't even feel heat radiating through the material holding my hand 4" from it. And in that heat it was awesome being able to pop it out anytime we stopped because it was just that easy.
I've setup at the beach when its windy (no poles) with no issues at all, it moves a little but its not been something it can't handle. I'm sure i will wind up needing to put them down at some point but so far i love that it doesn't need them and am confident that it can handle a decent breeze.
It was a big hard putting it away at first but the more you do it the easier it gets. I dont' have the grip strength i use to so it provided a little challenging at first on the one on the end. Maybe if they put a little tab or something that would make it easier. but overall i can setup and tear down super quick.
I do plan to get the walls when they are released and can update on those when that comes in.

For a sub 1k free standing 270 i am very pleased with my purchase. I wound up getting it on sale at northridge4x4 for just under 600...shipped+tax so that just sweetened the deal

Nice, I'm looking at the same one. Have any photos of the whole truck with it closed? Curious about it's length and look over the cab. Thanks!

I had to extend the brackets to their max to get them to fit on the contractor rack. So adjusting it further is not likely unless I make a custom shell rack. Overall I'm stoked it fits as it and the position is relatively on point. Granted that will be put to the real test in the rain.
