Sure this has been discussed many times on here. But those that have a 16 or 17 model.. how have they been overall? I have a 2016 sr5 3.5. I love this freaking truck. I plan to keep it a very long time. My biggest thing so far is engine noise.. this little thing clanks, ticks, and knocks like a sewing machine. (Pretty sure clanking is vacuum pump) hasn’t gotten better or worse. I also have a timing over leak im monitoring. I only have 40,000 miles on this truck and plan to keep it a very long time.

So those of you that have a 16 or 17 model with the 3.5 v6. How’s your experience been so far? Am I in for anything crazy motor wise down the road? I’ve pondered about a tundra a few times.. or maybe trading on a 21 model Tacoma just because prices are so high on trades right now.

2016 Trd Off-road 2wd, Mexico made. My truck has been great, recently got the KD tune and she feels like a whole new truck. I've learned to live with it's noises. From what I've read it's normal. I used to get a lot of chirping from the fuel injectors, but haven't noticed it lately. It's like after 36k it just went away. I hear it all the time in my landlords Tacoma. "Normal operation"
Now, it's not a loud engine by any means, but it sure has some quirky noises. And with the tune giving me more power and torque on the low end, i really hear the voice of the engine more when accelerating.

I've got the same leak. 5yr/50k drivetrain warranty should have you covered on repair. Unfortunately it's quite a job to get the engine out to replace the gasket that is leaking. Luckily I found mine sooner that later. My taco makes 5 years in October of this year. Dealership ordered the part, waiting on their call..

It’s a Toyota, you will be just fine man. All makes have lemons once in a while, but with Toyota you have much less chance of getting one. I wouldn’t worry about it. That 3.5 has been around for a while and it’s a Lexus engine. How often do you hear Lexus engines blow up? I have never to be honest.

All Toyota/Lexus engines are loud and sound like sewing machines, mine included. Take care of that leak, use good gas, do regular oil changes and you will be just fine.

I have 113k on mine and all I’ve done is fluid changes and tires. It’s been solid

my 16 had 2qt low trans fluid from factory. Lucky i got it taken care of pretty quick, It had the 3rd brake light leak that decided to happen just out of the 36k and they wouldnt fix it under the TSB for free. I also then had the squealing belt issue that I didnt know there was a TSB for. I ended up trading it in that day to try out a Rav4 hybrid. Had that car for exactly one year and traded it in for my 21 sport.
Over all my issues with my 16 were pretty minor but it still had some issues. Who knows if I kept it long enough the trans may have died early from the 2qt low from the factory.

2017 DCLB Sr5 4X4. No major problems. Low transmission fluid from factory. Otherwise, great truck.

Just turned 30,000 on mine and zero issues. Build date on mine is December 2016 - Texas build. Do regular maintenance and check things out underneath and in the engine bay once in awhile to look for anything abnormal. Enjoy your truck!
