Honestly been one of the hardest adjustments after living out west for 6 years before moving down here.

Yeah it sucks. But I still 100% public land hunt here and out of state. Just more driving.

This all day long. Htown is where most of my family resides. I was in that town in early 90s and it sucked. - FOR ME. Way too many people too. Dallas is cement city but lots of freshwater to fish and way too many people.

If you're in IT, Austin would be good but realize this market can pick and choose IT folks as there are so many. The housing market here is still a "bubble"... I'm in IT and have been for all my career but refuse to live in the city with all those people and the taxes. Look north of the city to escape that BS.

San Antonio is 2.5 hours or so to our beautiful Texas coast. Water is cleaner from Port O'Conner all the way south. If you like to fish... And the hill country is at your back door.

    Good luck.

Cars and Tacomas tend to rot in Houston. Lots of humidity and salt air makes the place miserable for man and beast for much of the year. I’m near Abilene, nothing rusts here and it’s that famous dry heat in July and August that’s the worst of the weather.
