Hey y’all I’m back. I’ve had this kind of annoying clunk/click in my taco for a while when going over bumps or in dips. From my research it seems like it could be a bad lower control arm ball joint or bushings possibly. Could also be other things for all I know. Anyways here’s some pictures and videos of the sound. If any of y’all could help or if you might have had a similar sound please let me know what you think it is!
edit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cW_eIuQERY Here is the video

Did you jack up the wheel and have a looksee? Like you said it could be several things. But we won't know until you have a look.

Get the wheel off the ground and shake it. Top to bottom. Side to side. If it has any play, then find it. Use a crowbar to check the LBJ by getting under the tire and lifting.

    Good luck.

For the past year my front suspension has been making more and more noise. I replaced the bushings, ball joints, tie rods, sway bar links, had the shocks rebuilt, new bearings, clean/inspect/repainted everything, new cab/radiator mounts, gusseted spindles, rebuilt CV axles, new rotors and pads, replaced bump stops, rebuilt front diff, replaced needle bearing, reinforced engine mounts, rehung exhaust, retorqued everything, greased every fitting, and had an alignment. If anything, the noises are now louder. The one trick that seems to work is to turn up the radio volume knob.

Was this work done by you or a shop? Some shop mechanics are really good at figuring out problems. Some are really good at taking your money, and getting you to keep coming back to spend more money.

Update: I jacked up the drivers side and wiggled the tire. No play. Same with the ball joint. Don’t know what to say...

    Dang.
There should definitely be some kind of shiny wear spot with that noise.
    What about the top hat?
There the front strut shaft comes thru the plate where it mounts on top. In between the 3 bolts.

that would be my thought as well. I have the same noise with my sway bar attached. Removed the sway bar… no noise!:D

Should I just take the end link off and fold it back to test drive it?

YES. I have an 08 Tacoma with just under 200,000 on it. I bought it with 100,000 and since the day I got it, it made front end clunk noises over small bumps. I finally decided the other day to remove the front swaybar entirely and now all my front end noises are completely gone. Sounds like a brand new front end!

Give it a shot, worst case is the sound stays and you can just reinstall the sway bar. But I bet your noises go away.

I now prefer driving without the swaybar, but if you want it for stability I recommend upgrading the swaybar bushings and end links.

I pulled on the sway bar near the end link and bushings and there’s no play. I might take off the link to test it tomorrow but I wouldn’t take out the sway bar. From what I hear it can be hazardous if you need to turn fast on a freeway or something

Mine had no play at all either, but it was still the source of the clunk. As far as the danger on the freeway goes, sorry you live in such a populated area lol like I say, upgrade your swaybar bushings and end links.

Check your alignment bolts. All needs to be torqued to 100ft lbs. Had a similar issue after alignment was done and turns out they didn’t torque the alignment bolts.

Remove the whole thing, (sway bar and end links) to test. You don't want those things flopping around and possibly jamming your steering.

I had an old Honda Accord that made a clunk going over speed bumps. The end links looked good to me until I took them off. One was bad. After I replaced both end links the noise went away.

Had the same sound on mine. Replaced lower control arms with OEM’s and it cleared it up. I don’t have my sway bar on the truck though..

Edit: After going back and watching your video, it sounds like the lower control arm bushing and or ball joint. That’s exactly what mine sounded like.
