Hello, I am new to the Tacoma forum as I recently acquired a 2001 Tacoma. The truck is very nice with the exception of some horrible frame rust. The shock perches have broken off an the frame looks like swiss cheese. The truck only has 117,000 miles so I am not quite sure how to proceed. I see that Safe T Cap makes some nice weld in frame sections, but this may be a bit beyond my garage capabilites. Any thoughts?

Frame is in need of reinforcement. Driver side top shock mount completely broke off frame. Passenger side shock broke and mount is weak. Anyone tackle this issue?

Last Truck I did an Estimate for it was around $3000.00 plus .FYI the plus would be for things Like Fuel and Brake lines maybe a Fuel Pump bracket and other needed parts .

Your Choices are Repair the Truck or sell as is most likely taking a big loss.

    Where does the truck live.

Ouch. A very nice truck does not have horrible frame rust. It's a part out, project, or complete chassis replacement. Sorry you got hosed.

Some people don`t count under the Hood or underneath the truck when talking about the truck

I knew one who spent hours every week washing and polishing things Never even bothered to check the oil went to the quicky mart to have them check it between changes.

I knew there were frame issues going into this project, but not quite the extent of this rust. Was hoping to pull the box and have a fabricator weld in reinforcement and shock perches. Unfortunately, I think this may require a bit more. I see that Safe-t-cap offers some nice weld in frame pieces, but worried that I may just run into too many issues. Maybe part with this truck. Very unfortunate that Toyota had such weak corrosion protection. The truck has lived in SE Wisconsin, where we love to pour on the salt every time it snows. Would be open to part with the truck as a project for the right buyer.
