Hey, the Appalachian Trail has been in existence since 1925.
And there have been 10-11 murders in all that time.
Plus that one, I guess.

Not so bad, considering all the millions of folks who have hiked on it.
But less than 1,000 do the whole thing in any given year.

Anyway, thanks for the well wishes.

Just got deeply involved in political intrigue and volunteering for stuff that turned out to be more time consuming and exhausting than anticipated. I got it all straightened out…or not.

 

A rabbit is hopping through the woods. Hop! Hop! Hop! When he comes upon a giraffe. Now, this giraffe is about to smoke some weed. The rabbit looks up at the giraffe and say, "Giraffe, don't smoke weed! Weed is a drug and drugs are bad, come running with me through the forest!"

The giraffe looks at the weed, then looks at the rabbit, then back at the weed.

The giraffe tossed his blunt aside and they go running through the forest together. Run! Run! Run! Hop! Hop! Hopping along.

Soon they come to a clearing with a sheep.

This sheep is about to shoot up heroin.

The rabbit says to the sheep, "Mr Sheep, don't do heroin! Heroin is a drug and drugs are bad for you! Come running with us through the forest!"

The sheep looks at the heroin, then looks at the rabbit, then back at the heroin.

The sheep tossed his needle aside and they go running through the forest together.

Run! Run! Run! Hop! Hop! Hopping along.

Soon they come to a clearing and in this clearing is a tiger.

Now, this tiger is about to drink a can of beer.

The rabbit looks at the tiger and says, "Mr Tiger, don't drink beer! Alcohol is a drug and drugs are bad for you! Come running with us through the forest!"

The tiger looks at his beer, looks at the rabbit and back his beer.

He takes a claw and cracks open the beer and proceeds to carefully place it down beside him.

He gets up and walks over to the rabbit, lifts up a paw and starts mauling the shit out of the rabbit!

The giraffe and sheep are in shock.

And they scream, "Dude, what the fuck!? He was just trying to help you!"

The tiger turns to them and growls, "Every time that fucking rabbit does cocaine, I end up running through the fucking forest!"

Meaning total ups and downs.

The Continental Divide Trail (CDT) from Mexico to Glacier National Park in Montana has over 400,000 feet in elevation change.

Anyone care to guess the total elevation change on the Appalachian Trail (AT)?
It's harder than you might think.

Doing all 3 is called the "Triple Crown" of Through Hiking.
But each one only counts if it's done in its entirety in a single year.
I dunno who makes these roolz...just saying...


No, I don't have ambitions of doing all 3.

I think I told y’all this story before, but when I lived in Texas there was a guy up the road that raised emus. One day I hear my son screaming and run out to see my yard is full of them. With one chasing my son. So I grabbed the lid off a garbage can and got between them. It was kicking my butt. Then the owner showed up with his dogs and rescued us. Apparently his kids forgot to shut the gate. Those things are mean.

I don’t have the energy to hike all the places I want to. When I was young enough to do it I had to work and never had the time. Life is unfair that way.
