Season is pretty restrictive so I probably won’t go till next year. They are filter feeders so you have to snag them instead of how you normally get a fish to bite. I usually use a 10/0 treble hook with a weight tied off the back of it to get it down in the water. Cast as far as I can and jerk it back through the water. You can use up to three treble hooks so sometimes I use more depending on how many snags there are because loosing gear gets expensive. I adjust from 3-10oz of weight depending on current and water depth.

My rod and reel of choice is a 12’ spinning setup spooled with ~300 yards of 80lb braid

    Hey guys,
I'm still trying to figure out my tires (BFG KO2's).. Ive been thinking I need to replace them. But now I've been to a couple places who have told me they're fine and they wouldn't replace them. But, I think they were only basing that on factory and legal specs. I'm new to offroading and not sure what's good for these all terrain tires. I have 6/32 in rear. 10/32 in the front. But they're 6 years old and have 55k miles on them. I'm getting ready to take a long trip and do a couple weeks of driving out west.. Mountains, deserts, rocks, sand, mud, etc. 10/32 doesn't seem bad, considering they're about 1/2" new. But the rears at 6/32 are looking a little weak.
SO.. What would you do? Replace them, or maybe just rotate for now?

I have some cheap 33’s for sale that have pretty good tread life.

I guess what I need to know is, what is a good amount of tread for an off road tire? Apparently the same 2/32 applies to them as it does to road tires. And I think that's all the tire company people were concerned with when they turned down my money. But.. a whole lot more wear has occurred by that time on an AT tire that started of at 16/32. And, I don't know what's safe for mud traction when off road, etc.

If I get 50,000 out of my Falkens I’ll be happy. The deeper the tread (new) the better. Bought the last 2 sets off Amazon, then pay $20/25 @ to have them mounted and balanced. Don’t forget to air down when off-roading.

All really depends on the routes you plan on taking. If you're getting off the pavement, get a new set. Better to be safe than stranded.

But I've also gotten 70k out of a set of KO2s before so :crapstorm:

I got 55k out of my first set of falkens. Could have got more but wanted new tires before winter.

OK. I guess there is no definitely correct answer. The internet is just as indecisive as my own head :)
Alright.. I am right on the line as far as age and mileage.. Over by some standards.. Plus for whatever reason, I want tires.. so I think I'll go for it.
SO, I'm back to needing to find a place in STL who knows what an off road truck is.. One of the shops I was at today looked at the truck. Checked the door tag. Went in and stared at his screen for 10 min, mumbling something occasionally about trying to find specs. Then finally says.. OH, I think someone installed different wheels and tires on your truck. URG.. doesn't inspire confidence. And both places I stopped by just measured the depth, looked at their computer, and said, no way we'll replace these, You've got plenty of tread life left.

I still need someone to install them and align the vehicle.. That's what I'm worried about.. mostly the alignment. I want someone who knows what they are doing on a truck like this, to do the alignment.
    Tires are LT235/85r16

Try MT Scheille on Watson. They're a bunch of Toyota nuts who dabble in off road builds.

Several members have had good luck with Firestone, even with suspensions and non factory spec tires etc.

They don't do alignments, they will send you to same place I suggested earlier

As for the tires, if I am doing a trip, I wouldn't want to be stranded. So if I have doubts about the tires that have been driven for 55k, I would replace them. Can't go wrong with cooper st Maxx for tread life. Mud terrains for mainly daily/pavement driving are a waste of money.

My km2s at 30k were the same as @G.T. Cooper max at 66k (both offroad and on road use)

Maxx is a heavy tire but it’s also designed to be as puncture resistant as possible. Unless I need a proper mud terrain tire I’ll always turn to the Maxx tires as they have great traction and wear long.
