I fear the fictional teenager would be very disappointed in the fictional brake stands :);)

Wouldn’t the dealer just change the pads under warranty? If that is the case just let them do it, it’s just a waste of their times and resources.

Brakes, clutches, wipers, tires, etc. are wear items. The warranty on those parts are much more limited and based mainly on material / workmanship defects.

I would say at 8800 miles this should be classified as a material or workmanship defect.

2010 Chrysler had a premature brake ware issue. On the mini van. Covered the pads and rotor turning but no labor. Depending on mileage.

Yes. Which is what I noted. Stuff can happen, but wear items are typically just that.

For 25% wear, it can depend. I don't know what is considered allowable wear for brakes, but I know that folks complaining about 20k replacements on past models (not Tacos) were told to go pound sand.

Again, for the Taco, I'm betting bad / too fast measurements, versus actual wear.

Try another dealer. or mechanic. Brake shop will check for no cost to you.

Harden your bark, there are storms on the horizon.
Have them show you the wear with the shoes still on the truck. If true, then it's a warranty issue due to a failure of some kind. If not, find yourself a new dealership.

I ran the shoes on my 2nd gen for over 100,000 miles and they still had a small amount of meat left. The drums were still original at 167,000.

There must be something very wrong or the dealer is trying to take your money.

my 2018 with 48,000 miles is still on the first set of pads . 99% of the time your rear drums on pickup trucks will go past 100k easy (less braking back there) .

Another advantage of EV truck ... regenerative breaking , so much less use of pads . Also if buying Tesla no need to worry about dealer scammer scum .... cuz there are none. “But parts are hard to find and meh mehhhh mehhh “. Ok fine , keep going to the dealer , that’s probably better .

Like others here, I'd check the measurements myself. Had similar issue with my wife's '18 when I took in for fuel pump recall. Was close to 30K so figured I'd let them do the service while it was there. Called to say front pads were at 3MM and recommended replacement. I declined but went ahead and bought the parts online. When I pick the truck up, their own paperwork said pads at 5MM...:annoyed:. This dealership is notorious but only 5-10 minutes from my house, I should have known better. At least I have the parts on hand when it actually does need brakes done.

They're trying to upsell you. All the dealers in my area do it.

As others have stated, stock drums last forever. My 2009 has 240,000kms and is on original rears.

Like everyone else has said, I call BS.

If you’re worried that something is wrong which could be causing excess wear (say a sticking Wheel Cylinder) go for whatever is a normal drive for you, then measure the temperature of the outside of the drum with an IR Thermometer. If both sides are the same then everything is probably fine.

Sort of off topic, but some advice: It's good practice to engage the parking brake before releasing the brake pedal when you park to avoid stress of the gears binding and other mishaps.

Short story: my gf (who lives with me) parks her m/t Jetta in the garage. I came home from work one day, opened the garage door and out rolls her car, down my steep driveway and slammed into my neighbor's home across the street. It was a total disaster.
